my old art

Monday, September 08, 2003
I'm going to put most of the photos in my photoblog, but I will post a couple here because they are 4x3 instead of 3x4. Not sure if the photoblog will like images that are more vertical than horizontal, so I will post those two here.

They are both from the same painting. This one that I mentioned in my previous post, that I'd done either my freshman or sophomore year. A picture of the whole painting will be uploaded into my photoblog.

The splotch of ick above the pink pegasus is an unknown substance. I do not know if it was a drop of paint or if it's something else (coffee, maybe?). I do not remember it being there when I had finished my painting, so it must've been spilled on it at a later time.

eager for more..

Thursday, September 04, 2003
The lady who bought my dragon on eBay wrote me today to let me know she received him. Here is what she said:

Dragon arrived! That is one cute fellow. Great transaction all around.
Now get busy and make some more---he needs a friend or two.

w00t!

I've got 2.5 weeks of vacation hours I need to take from work before the end of the year.. I just need to figure out when I want to take them (in addition to two more unpaid days since our stupid company is still trying to struggle out of bankruptcy). I'm going to try to see if I can take two weeks off at once, which will leave two more vacation days. The calendar seems pretty full already, and one of my colleagues still has to take 160 hours sometime before the end of the year. (It's a use it or lose it policy here) So, if my boss will OK it, I think I will try to start my two weeks off next Wednesday. That will give me plenty of time to finish cleaning/reorganizing my office, and then start on the rest of the house (cleaning, probably some reorganizing of that too)....

and then I can take the other week to maybe start some new dragons to sell.
:o)

eBay auction

Saturday, August 30, 2003
Well, the auction is over, and there was only one bidder. I kept hoping that someone was going to snipe the auction and there would be a mad frenzy of bidding between the sniping software and eBay's proxy bidding software (as long as the original bidder set a higher proxy bid), but alas, it was not to be.

Ah well, I'll say it again, I'm just glad someone was interested in owning one of my dragons. :o)

Now I just have to look for two boxes so I can double box it and then get it shipped out as soon as the bidder sends their payment.

yay!

Thursday, August 28, 2003
yippee! Someone decided to bid on my dragon that I put on eBay the other day.....

auction

Granted they just took the opening bid, but hey, it's better than having to relist the little guy later and pay the listing fees again! Too bad I can't see what their proxy bid is.. I'd be curious to know just how much the bidder is willing to pay. Eh, oh well. 😊 I'm just happy someone bid.

onto more visually pleasing things..

Friday, August 22, 2003
Update: I decided to try for $125 buy it now and $50 to start. I can hope for more but it all depends on the people's tastes. :o) Here is a link if you're interested in viewing/watching the auction.

I am going to be putting up a dragon I made earlier this year on eBay later this evening. I'm trying to determine how much I should put both its starting price, and it's "Buy It Now" price. So far I figure $50 for starting, and am thinking $125 for Buy It Now.

Any thoughts?

Messy is an understatement

Wednesday, August 20, 2003
I was sitting at my desk this evening, trying to straighten my claying area and realized just how much cat hair and lint is lying around on my workspace. Let me tell you, cats and polymer clay do not mix, but the cats were here first, so I make do.

As I was moving my clay tools around to make a feeble attempt to clean up the lint & cat hair, I came to another realization, that I really need to organize my clay stuff a bit.

And immediately following that realization, came another.. maybe I should make an attempt to reorganize my entire office? God knows it looks like a tornado hit it.

I can hardly see my floor.

And I can't even get to my closet.

So, what I am thinking about doing, is this weekend, rolling up my sleeves and doing an overhaul in this room. Of course, coming from a person who procrastinates a lot and would rather surf and play video games than lift a finger to clean, this probably doesn't mean much. But at least I'm giving it some thought! :o)

long day

Monday, August 11, 2003
...got up at 6AM (very unnatural for me) so that I could drive my parents up to Prescott so they could do some errand running in preparation for their move.. pay the deposit on their new digs, get a PO box, show me the new place (from the outside..they don't have keys yet and it was locked).

While it was still fairly warm up there (around 93 degrees F), it was still better than Phoenix. Gads, at 9:00pm it was still 107 degrees according to channel 12. Yuck.

Anyway, now I'm kicking back waiting for laundry to cycle through, working on a new dragon in clay. It's been interesting trying to get this figure sculpted to fit the rocks while various pieces (claws, feet) are still uncured. I think this one is probably going to take at least a couple of months to complete, as getting it to balance on its stand is going to be tricky, to say the least. It's already somewhat off balance and it doesn't even have its wings yet. 😕

I'll post more photos later on down the line as it progresses.

dragon sculptures

Sunday, August 03, 2003
mkay.. So I like dragons, which is probably somewhat obvious by my choice of domain name..

Anyway, within the last year I've discovered polymer clay, and if you poke around on the main index page of my domain, you'll see some examples of some of the dragons I've sculpted (and sold). (I swear I will update that part of my site, honest!) It's a hobby I picked up that nicely fulfills my urges to create artsy things....

software woes & art

Tuesday, July 29, 2003
So I have this Wacom Intuos2 tablet. I decide on a whim I want to draw some things, so I install it with no problems. Included with the tablet is a "Power Suite" of software that includes Painter Classic. This is supposedly a program that mimics the effects of pencil, watercolors, etc., the different kinds of mediums that an artist might use. I worked in pencil and watercolors in high school so I figure I'll install this program and give it a whirl.

I install it, and try to run it. I get an error. "Not enough free memory". What?! I have 1.25GB of RAM for pete's sake! I go to Corel's website and do some digging. They don't have any FAQs for Painter Classic, so I look through a FAQ for Painter 5.5 (they are now on Painter 8), figuring that Classic is probably a toned down version of the old software. I find a "fix" because Painter 5.5 had the same issue. I apply said fix (lower virtual memory to lower than 1023), and bring my virtual memory from 1900ish to 1000. Still won't work. WTF?

I had written to Wacom since they packaged the software with their hardware, and also because I couldn't get support from Corel since I didn't own a full version (and I sure as hell wasn't going to pay a 'per incident' charge to call their support line). I was written back with the suggestion to put it below 900MB, or if that doesn't work, my last option would be to buy Painter 8.

Granted Corel has an offer for users of Painter Classic to purchase the upgrade instead of the full version, for $150, but that's really a bit too expensive for me right now. So I try lowering my virtual memory to 800.

Yay! Painter now works, although I wonder how this low VM is going to affect my other programs, since WindowsXP recommends over 1900...

So I just spent the last couple of hours sketching. I was going to draw something to add to my banner here, but I'm not quite sure if it'll fit, or if it will look good if I shrink it to 200px high. I don't think it will be too bad if I do that, the image itself is only 400px high. I just clipped off the extra white space and made it 350x350, I'll show it below, tell me what you think:
