Because this definitely takes talent:

coffeestain.jpg

Spilling my coffee (lukewarm) on my shirt, pants, chair and a little bit on the keyboard.

Even better, I'm at work. Took the pic while it was still fresh, so maybe when it dries it won't be as noticable. If it is, I'll just wear my jacket the rest of the night.

Oye.

a little link love

I added two more links to my blogroll today. I figure I should probably return the favor since they both have me in their blogrolls!

I think a “ROFLMAO” applies here…

Wednesday, January 07, 2004
And so, I was right. For the most part.

http://www.azcentral.com/news/articles/0107kinderrumors-ON.html

It doesn't mention what I'd read about the leak on Friday, but it does say that the rumour has been going around for about five days, which would put it back to Saturday, the day after the small leak was found & fixed.

I say again, idiots. baa-aaaah

Oh for crying out loud…

This summer's "gas shortage" has caused people around here to be too fucking jumpy and skittish.

There is a "RUMOUR" going around at the moment, that the gas pipeline from Tucson to Phoenix broke again.

I'm wagering that it's simply a matter of people being ignorant and stupid (baa-aahhh), and overreacting to a news brief that I found on azcentral.com about a very small leak that was found on Friday, and was subsequently repaired in less than two hours.

Did anyone notice it then? Or even two or three days later? Nnoooo... I'm also willing to wager that this rumour was spawned by news media trying to sensationalize any piece of information they can get on the problems with the pipeline (well, it is a piece of crap, after all). You know how they work, "Is the pipeline in more trouble than we realize? Find out at 10pm", and it just turns out to be a minor blurb about a tiny leak found and fixed in a matter of hours.

There have been co-workers calling in and telling us that some gas stations are already out of gas. Others saying that the lines are starting to form again, a la Summer of '03. Supposedly there is supposed to be some announcement at 10PM about what is going on.

I will laugh my ass off if it turns out to be about the leak on Friday.

But, the damage is already done. Lines are forming, some gas stations are already running out of gas (for the time being).

Fucking idiots.

I’ve developed a goose egg on my forehead…

...from beating it against my monitor in frustration.

Here is the general look of the layout I would like to implement, if possible.

example.jpg

The red outlines whereabouts an image would be cropped to get the individual "background" pieces. The top, bottom middle pieces would repeat horizontally, and the left & right middle pieces would repeat veritcally. The corners would be flush against the margins (as would the top/bottom middle and sides).

The "title" would be a separate image, as would the dragon (in transparent GIF format). There are also image files for the "buttons" (about, categories, etc., not shown).

I know this is doable in tables, and probably doable in CSS only. I'm tired of trying to figure either out (even after picking apart other HTML files that have similar looks), so if you're up to a challenge and want to try to figure this out, email me for the images, I'll send them in a zip file.

The first person who successfully implements the look I am aiming for (with clean HTML or CSS, thanks) will get a medium size (4"-6") dragon sculpture as trade. I figure hard work for hard work is an even enough trade... If you'd prefer something other than a dragon, we'll talk.

I reserve the right to reject any entries.

If you read my blog and don't have HTML foo but know someone who does, pass along the offer to see if they're interested.

If no one wants to take this on, then I'll give up on the borders and try with just the title, buttons & dragon image.

edited to add: I'd be more interested to see this layout accomplished in CSS than tables, if it's possible.

little kitty… claimed

Tuesday, January 06, 2004
The neighbors that put up the signs for the kitty told me while I was out taking down our Chrismtas lights today, that the kitty's owner claimed him yesterday.

I was wondering about that, since we didn't hear the kitty last night, nor did we see him this morning. It's good to know he's home again.

I must be a magnet for animals or something, because while I was outside taking down the lights, a different neighbor's dog got loose from her yard and made her way to my yard. I would guess the dog was probably less than a year old, since she was rather shy and piddled when she first approached me and sniffed my hand.. and then after I checked her tags to see who she belonged to and we started down the street, she nearly dragged me the whole way back to her house (two houses down). I'd imagine it was pretty funny looking, since I did not have a leash on hand so all I could do was hang on to her collar.

Turns out she belongs to the neighbor whose golden retriever had gotten loose about two and a half years ago. That dog also ended up in my front yard. I had ended up making a make-shift leash out of a belt and walked the neighborhood (it didn't have tags then) to try to determine where he lived. At the same time the owner had been driving around looking for her dog.. When she spotted me walking him she pulled over in tears, grateful that someone had found him.

Today she didn't even have time to notice their newest dog had gotten loose, I returned the dog to their back yard and then knocked on their front door to let her know the female dog had gotten loose, and that their gate latch seemed to not be closing all the way so she may want to check it out. She thanked me for returning her dog, then about 15 minutes later she took both dogs (the golden retriever and the newer one) for a walk, and thanked me again (I was still outside putting the lights away).

It's the least I can do, even though I don't really know any of my neighbors that well. I'd want to have my own pet returned to me if one of them were to become lost, and having lost pets that had run away in the past I know how it feels to lose them.

little kitty lost..

Monday, January 05, 2004
There is a young adult cat hanging around our neighborhood. He first appeared in our back yard, at around 2AM about two nights ago, yowling like mad. We went outside to investigate, and was greeted quickly by a very friendly kitty. He's probably not even one year old.

We contemplated putting him in our cats' cage (which they stayed in while they were little kittens until we knew they were completely litter trained) for the night in our garage.. We quickly changed our minds when he would not stop meowing, and we could hear it through the house in our bedroom.

So, we let him loose, hoping he'd be ok for the night.

The next morning, our neighbors rang our bell, cat in arms. They were going door to door trying to find his owner, as he had found his way into their garage during the night. They already have a cat, as do we, so neither of us could house him. I found that they put up posters on the mailboxes with his picture in hopes someone would claim him.

So far, no one has, that we are aware of. He showed up at our house again last night, again in the back yard. Our bedroom light was on, so that is where he concentrated his efforts to get our attention. When he climbed onto our window screen, I went out side to get him to the front yard.

I stood in the driveway for a few minutes, contemplating what to do. We live at the edge of our housing development, and to the west of us is nothing but desert. We regularly hear coyotes at night.

I figured he managed to make it through the last few nights ok, but I wanted to help a little, so I closed the garage with about five inches of space at the bottom, so he could come and go as he pleased. The cage was still there from the other night, so I separated it from its base, so he could get to the blankets & litter box that we had put in there the other night.

Today, when Josh was heading out the door to leave for work, lost kitty sprinted inside. I quickly picked him up before our cats discovered he was in the house, and stepped out into the garage. I held him while Josh backed out so he wouldn't get squished, and then closed the garage to leave the 5" space again, set the kitty down and went back inside. He meowed pitifully for a few more minutes, then went on his way.

I don't know how long we should wait before we should take him to a shelter, in case his owners see one of the signs our neighbors put up and come to claim him... I want to try to take him to a no-kill shelter if I can, but the first one I called has a two to three week waiting list for found animals to be accepted to await adoption. I can only imagine what kind of waiting lists others in the Valley have.

If you live in Phoenix and you want to give this guy a home, contact me. I'd take him in if we didn't already have two cats (who were extremely unhappy at this fellow's presence in the backyard). He seems healthy, and he is not de-clawed. I think he may be neutered but I'm not positive. Since we've not let him into the house (at least not intentionally), we don't know of any bad habits he may have, other than his tendency to climb your leg if you don't pay enough attention to him (fortunately I was wearing jeans).

I think I may wait a week and if he's still hanging around, I'll turn him over to a shelter. He's really very sweet but I don't think I'm prepared to try introducing a new cat into the family.

Oh, and before I forget, the border is flush against the margins, too.

&*@&#$%@#!  I mean, Happy New Year!

My redesign is going.... well, not so well.
I'm sitting here at work (a long, 12 hour day), cursing to myself while I try to make HTML my bitch and bow to my commands... I started out trying the layout with tables, but I'm having a feeling it's not gonna work that way.

To give you a general idea of the layout... There will be a border all around the page, a title image (would prefer it be hanging to the left of center, kind of like my current one), image buttons for the side links (about, archives, etc., on either the right or left, the top button starting aligned left, then the following buttons alternating aligned right and left), and a semi-large image of a drawing I did just for the site, at the lower right of the page.

Anyone an HTML/CSS/PHP guru that wants to help a frustrated gal out? Tables don't seem to be bending to my will.. it looks OK, but I haven't even gotten the link buttons set up yet, or the drawing and it already looks like if it stretches too much the background images will start to repeat in the wrong way. 😕

I'm thinking about frames, but I've never worked with those before.. CSS seems a reasonable solution, but I know only the very basics of it and would probably end up beating my head against my monitor trying to figure it out...

I'll keep doing what I can for the time being... If anyone is willing to assist and wants to get ahold of me quicker than through comments or e-mail, my AIM ID is n t g b l x (without the spaces).

Thanks!

that font..

Tuesday, December 30, 2003
I'm not even sure when or where I got it, but I found out it isn't free.. So I guess I'll be looking for another font for my redesign unless I want to dish out $21 to buy the font. Feh. I know people work hard to make these fonts and all, but I prefer free stuff... Especially when spending money on something as frivolous as a font when money is a little tight isn't the best of ideas..

So it appears, now that I know that it is not a freeware font, that I may be also redesigning that image for the other site as well. It's not a commercial site, but I'd still prefer not to get nailed at some point for using it without having paid for it.
