to do list…

Things I should be doing today:

• measuring the backyard to find out how much room a 21’ pool would leave between it & the house.
• getting the UPC codes off the TiVo boxes and mailing in the $50 rebates.
• finishing a critter blanket and packing the two in a box to mail off to Brooklyn for the Critter-knit-a-thon.
• going to the pool place to maybe order the doughboy pool..
• finish painting the baby dragon sculpture someone at work commissioned.
• cover a goose eggshell with clay & paint it, so the baby dragon has a “home”.
• bake the base for another dragon, and then paint it.

What I am doing, instead of the above:

surfing the ‘net.

Damn.  I guess I better get started on my list there, eh?

whoo!

It rained last night, at about 2:30am.  LOTS of lightning, lots of thunder.  We opened the blinds in the bedroom and lay watching the light show for a while…

Of course, this morning, the only hint that it rained is slightly damp ground, and 44% humidity (as opposed to 10%).  Oh, and it’s not quite as hot as it was yesterday.  Barely above 90F degrees (while it was around 105F yesterday).

And the dewpoint is still a little high, so maybe we’ll get some more rain tonight? One can only hope.

Hopefully this storm helped put out the fires that have been burning up north, and down south.

Bah.  Almost time to go to work.  Pooey.

a little layout tweaking…

I put my weather pixie on the sidebar so you can see how yucky it is here.

100F and 21% humidity as of 10am (it needs to update).
103F and 19% humidity as of 11am (at azcentral.com).

East coast ppl may see that and think, feh. that’s nuthin’...

I say, it’s still yucky.  Yeah, 85F and 90% humidity is yucky too, I will grant that.
But over 100F and any humidity over 10% is, well, yucky.

We’re nearing our monsoon season here.  We’re seeing clouds hang at the edges of the valley, contemplating moving in to drench us.  Big thunderheads, just waiting to pounce.  But, the heat keeps them at bay, because they’ll burn off before the rain even has a chance to fall if they move in too soon.

When they do move in too soon, I suppose that is when we end up with the dust storms sans rain.
But when the dewpoint finally reaches that magic number, we’ll get dustorms.. with rain.

I hope it reaches that point soon.  We definitely need some rain.

Oh, and if what I had to do to the CSS to put the weather pixie where it is screws things up in your browser… sorry.  Let me know.

closing the door…

Well that’s finally done.  I went through all of my entries & Josh’s as well, closed comments on all of those fuckers.

If I still used MT, I’d definitely install MT-Blacklist like D suggested, but since neither of us are using it anymore (except for the occassional link backs in old entries..), I think it was just easier (although more time consuming) to close all entries rather than have to worry about updating the blacklist now & then..

Meh. That’s just me, though.

Now to kill about an hour before it’s time to go home… Did I mention I’m back on a normal shift now? no more graveyard shift?  yay!!!  :coolsmile:  Swing shift is normal for me, I’m a night-owl, but graveyards is a stretch.  That sleepin’ during the day shit just don’t jive!

tedium, ad infinitum…

I left MT running since I did occassionally link to other entries when I posted from MT.  Rather than seek those links out and correct them, I chose to leave MT up under the directory it was installed in.

This morning I started seeing some comment spams hit that old blog… started deleting & blocking IPs… and they kept coming.

I had to go to work, so I figured I’d check again once I was at work to see if I was still getting them.

I am.

I downloaded 150+ e-mails from MT notifying me of comments.

WTF?  Talk about your spam bombers. 😕

Rather that torch the folder that MT is in, and rather than install MT blacklist, I’m going through each old entry, one by one, and closing the comments.

I think there are about 200 some odd entries.  This is going to take a while….

I’m glad I was at my computer when I started getting comments on an old entry in MT…

I got eight, count ‘em, EIGHT comment spams on one entry in the span of two minutes!!  Spam-bot, most definitely.  I think if I hadn’t been here to block the IP I probably would have logged in to see several more comment spams than that, I’m sure.

Methinks it’s time to make that directory password protected.  Ayup.

Only four more days of graveyard shift!  Yay!!

Then on to my “normal” shift, the swing shift.  I can hardly wait!
