The countdown begins…

Tuesday, January 17, 2006

In less than 10 hrs, I will be checking into the hospital to be induced.

To say that I’m nervous about this whole thing is an extreme understatement.

I think it’s more due to the fact I’m scared something will go horribly wrong and I’ll need an emergency c-section or something.

Gah!

one plus one equals…

Three.

As long as everything goes well, by the end of January there will be a new member of our household.

Here is peanut:

And no, it was not an accident. :o)

Baby is about 1.06cm right now, so very tiny.  We did see the heartbeat, the doctor estimated it to be about 132bpm.  The u/s dates the size at 7w1d, but my due date is 1/20/06 which really makes me 7w3d.

Morning sickness has not really hit hard yet. So far I am just getting nausous but have yet to bolt to a bathroom to hover over the toilet.  I’ve also been more tired than usual, but that is to be expected.

My next appointment is in four weeks, at which point we’re hoping to possibly actually hear the heartbeat.

Now if you’ll excuse me, I feel a bout of heartburn coming on.  Ugh.

we bid her adieu…

Tuesday, April 05, 2005

I took little green car to the car doctor yesterday, as her a/c wasn’t blowing as cold as it used to.. I also had them check her brakes while she was in the air, as there have been issues with the rotors warping.

The diagnosis?  The compressor on the a/c is shot.. it runs but isn’t pumping.  The rotors are again warped, and also needed new pads on the front.

Total estimated cost of the above repairs?

$1500.

Little green car’s Kelly Blue Book value is only $1250 on a good day.  If I were to have chosen to get the a/c fixed, and the brakes, that plus what I spent getting it tuned up a couple weeks ago and new tires, would have totaled about $2100.  Somehow it just doesn’t feel right, spending more money to get a car fixed that it is even worth.

Sooo…. Josh and I mulled it over, and decided to drive her down to Saturn to inquire how much they would give us for her in trade for a new car.  Sales manager looked her over, took her out for a spin, and stamped “$1500” on the paper.  (note: I did NOT tell them about the a/c compressor nor the brakes)  She marked A/C = cool (note: it did run cool, just not frigid like it used to), and I made sure they knew about the brand-friggin-new tires.

So, after a little bit more mulling over, quick finance calculating in my head about how much a new car payment will take away from paying down credit cards…... we decided to trade her in.  A/C is almost an absolute must in Phoenix, especially if one drives 45 miles ONE-way in the middle of the day, when temperatures are approaching their highest.  Oh, and I forgot to mention, that the thermometer on the car was also found to be cracked a while back, which regulates when the fan turns on… That was going to cost us over $200 to replace, so bring that total to $2300 to get the green car back in optimal working condition.  Neeeoope.  Not gonna happen.

So, rather than spending more than $1500 (in one chunk) to get the car fixed, we traded her in, getting that much toward the new car, and paid another $1500 as a down payment.  And get this.. we managed to get 0% financing!!  I swear my jaw hit the floor when they told us that, we’ve never gotten that low before (the VUE is at 9.9% I think).

I suppose you’re probably wondering which car we decided to buy, eh?

what’s this??

Tuesday, February 22, 2005

So, Josh and I come home from seeing Constantine, and notice this white stuff in the rocks in our front yard.  Hmm.

We open the door to the back yard to check the pool, knowing it had rained pretty hard while we were gone.  And we see this:

It looks suspiciously like snow, but it’s a close relative.  Hail!  About pea size, and quite a bit of it, from the looks.  It hailed back in December (or maybe it was January?), which we were able to witness, but we missed it this time, except for its aftermath.

And if anyone from the east or midwest reads this post and thinks I’m a bit odd for posting a picture of hail in our backyard, remember that I live in Phoenix, where about 70% of the year we’re sitting under a blistering sun.  So this kind of stuff (particularly the large amount of rain we’ve gotten this year) is out of the ordinary for us.  Besides, this is about the closest thing to snow that we’ll ever see here.  At least the type that sticks around for longer than five minutes!

off to a rocky start…

Saturday, January 01, 2005

I hope what happened this morning doesn’t set the tone for 2005 for us.

Josh either got food poisoning or the flu early this morning.

The timing is about right for food poisoning… he ate at about 7:00-8:00pm last night and the sickness hit at about 2:30am.  But the symptoms of food poisoning are nearly identical to the flu… Fever, chills, vomiting, liquid poo….  So, since his dad, who ate at the same restaurant, KFC—but didn’t have the popcorn chicken that Josh did—isn’t sick, we may not know for sure .  We can only assume that it may have been the popcorn chicken.

All we do know is it hit hard and fast.  He went to bed feeling fine, and two hours later he was racing to the bathroom.

We were supposed to go to work today.. but with me running on about four hours of sleep (two from the time we went to bed to when he woke up sick, and two, one-hour naps since then), and he laid up on the couch sleeping this off, that didn’t happen.

I feel bad about it, but there was no way I’d be able to make a 45 minute drive down to work on so little sleep, and then spend another 45 minutes driving back home when the shift was overwith.  Not safely, anyway.

I do plan on notifying that restaurant that their food may have made him sick, just in case it is food poisoning and they get other reports of it.  I also got the number for the health department and will likely be calling them on Monday.

I hope everyone else’s new year is starting off better than ours did.

a lunar eclipse? where??

Thursday, October 28, 2004

There was no such thing for us last night, for it was, of all things, overcast here.  Ol’ Mother Nature was preparing to dump buckets of rain on us.

It was raining when we woke up at 4am this morning.  It was still raining when we left at 5am.  It wasn’t raining when we got to work, but it was raining as late as about an hour & a half ago… Can’t really tell if it’s raining now, too far away from windows to tell…

So, we missed the last lunar eclipse for what, 2.5 years?  That sucks. :-(  Silly rain.  Oh well.

I cannot believe that Bush just stomped all over the moderator!

How fucking rude, just verbally bowling over him like that!

Dude, I think you just shot yourself in the foot.

*snore*

...about the Veep debate last night.

We couldn’t even sit through 20 minutes of their back-and-forth, you’re-a-liar/no-you’re-a-liar crap.

It probably didn’t help that we TiVo’d it so we could watch it while we ate dinner, and while I went out to go get said-dinner, the radio in the truck was still set to the newsradio station, which happened to be playing the debate.. and at that point I think it was around 30 minutes into the debate… They were talking about Iraq/Afghanistan at that point, & they were still talking about that when I got back into the truck after picking up dinner.  That was like, what, 40 minutes into a 90 minute debate, and they couldn’t get past Iraq/Afghanistan in less than 30 minutes??  Boooring!  It was like watching the Prez debate all over again.

I gather they eventually got around to talking about other stuff, from reading other blogs that have discussed last night’s debate, but the general consensus has been, it was just plain fucking boring.

Happy Birthday!

Saturday, August 07, 2004

It’s Josh’s birthday today!

Yes, I’m a little late posting something on my blog about my own husband’s birthday.
But at least it’s still his birthday… I wasn’t a day late or some silly stuff like that! 😊

Happy birthday, honey! 💋
