If not one, then the other

So this past Sunday, J hurt his foot when he did a canonball into his brother’s pool and went straight to the bottom (it is a fairly deep pool, too). Actually he scraped up both of his feet, and bruised one of them so he’s been limping this past week.
What is it with my crew and hurting their feet??

She’s better now. She stopped limping sometime late Saturday.
Our best guess is that she had a minor sprain from falling out of bed last Tuesday night. By Friday she was to the point where she wouldn’t even stand up, although I don’t know if it was because she was just expecting it to hurt, or if every little move she made actually did hurt. But after her nap on Friday I kind of forced her to walk across her room if she wanted me to carry her around. She was able to do it with a slight limp, and probably hurt her less than she expected, as she was hobbling around more by bedtime as opposed to be carried or pushed around in her umbrella stroller.
But she’s all better now, no signs of it anymore. 😊

Three.
As long as everything goes well, by the end of January there will be a new member of our household.
Here is peanut:

And no, it was not an accident. :o)
Baby is about 1.06cm right now, so very tiny. We did see the heartbeat, the doctor estimated it to be about 132bpm. The u/s dates the size at 7w1d, but my due date is 1/20/06 which really makes me 7w3d.
Morning sickness has not really hit hard yet. So far I am just getting nausous but have yet to bolt to a bathroom to hover over the toilet. I’ve also been more tired than usual, but that is to be expected.
My next appointment is in four weeks, at which point we’re hoping to possibly actually hear the heartbeat.
Now if you’ll excuse me, I feel a bout of heartburn coming on. Ugh.
Blue Man Banana goo, dam traffic, and a car-b-que to boot
Wednesday, March 30, 2005
We went to Vegas Sunday afternoon for an overnight stay, with the obligitory visit to see Blue Man Group at the Luxor. We were 2nd row center. I dressed nice, in black slacks and a blue shirt (it was just a coincidence! really!). We’ve sat in the “poncho section” a couple of times before, and have yet to get wet or slopped on, including the one time we did wear the plastic ponchos (which was the very first show we saw).
Until now. Avert your eyes, show spoiler to follow in the extended….
During the Twinkie bit, “stuff” is spewed forth from a tube connected to each of their shirts. They occassionally try to aim at the audience with this stuff, as it does come out quite forcefully.
Well, the one time I dress in nice clothes and figure, if we haven’t been hit in the past, what’s going to change?.... I get splattered with the goo.
Unfortunately, even if I had worn the plastic poncho, I reeally don’t think it would have helped, as most of the goo landed on my pantleg. I found out about five minutes after the initial hit that not only did it hit my pantleg, but it also.. um, it also landed in my lap. Right at the crotch. I didn’t know this until I felt a cool wetness start to seep through the cloth. Yes, eeeeewwwwwww!!!
I was pretty pissed off, but that is the risk one takes sitting in that section I suppose. To my defense, I did try to block the incoming flying goo with the plastic poncho by holding it up like a shield. Unfortunately, like I said eariler, that stuff flies pretty forcefully and it whipped right past the plastic. Josh lucked out and only got it on his hand. Me, and some other guy sitting next to me (who was, incidently, actually wearing his poncho), both got hit on the legs. I wiped it off as best I could, and after the show let out, blocked my crotch with my purse for the walk back to the car.
When looking at the “damage” later, it looked like one of two things… either: 1) someone horked on my clothes, or 2) some other bodily fluid attacked me (that being, either a boogery sneeze, or something else, which I’ll leave to your own imagination).
But, that is what mashed bananas will do, I suppose. Lesson learned, though. I’ll now always wear the poncho, and tuck my legs up underneath the poncho, too, even if it looks silly!
On the way back from Vegas, we enountered awful traffic. From the turn-off at Boulder City, until after the dam, traffic was practically bumper to bumper. I think it took almost 1.5 hrs to drive maybe 10-15 miles? It was really bad.
And then, on the last leg of the trip, the last stretch of open road before we reach our neighborhood, we get stopped in traffic because some truck was roiling in flames, and there was simply nowhere for us to re-route to… one lane in each direction and it was completely blocked off by the fire department. Worse, we had to wait while a water truck came out as it was out in the open desert and there are no fire hydrants there. I think that stopped us for about 30-40 minutes. And we both had to pee really badly by then. Gah! Though it was kind of neat that they hoisted the smoking husk of the truck up onto a flatbed tow truck shortly after they put the fire out. It hadn’t even had time to cool off yet and it was already being towed away.
But anyway, that was our weekend, along with Easter morning breakfast over at the mother unit’s house. She posted a pic of the new addition to the family, her granddaughter/my niece. Go check her out… she’s a cutie!

Wrong.
Ok, so now here’s the question. I am not yet done with it, I am in the middle of the first of the sleeves, but the body is done.
Do button holes really matter all that much anymore, which side they’re on? I’d rather not rip it out and start over just for the sake of which side the button holes are…
the sweater said it’s a boy…
Thursday, September 16, 2004
I’m knitting a sweater for my yet-to-be-determined niece or nephew, courtesy of Josh’s brother & wife. I found a pattern online that would make it seamless (which is cool, ‘cause so far I absolutely hate seaming), and followed the pattern… and got about four inches of it done before realizing the button holes are on the side for “boys”.
Not that it really matters too much which side the button holes are on these days…
But there you have it. The sweater says it’s a boy.
They have an appointment on the 25th to find out the sex of JoJo (see the MIL’s blog for details on the story of JoJo). So, we’ll see then if the sweater is right, (and the MIL too, I think, also thinks it’s a boy?) or if 95% of the rest of SIL’s family & friends are right in thinking it’s a girl.
Whee!
Happy Birthday!

It’s Josh’s birthday today!
Yes, I’m a little late posting something on my blog about my own husband’s birthday.
But at least it’s still his birthday… I wasn’t a day late or some silly stuff like that! 😊
Happy birthday, honey! 💋

My sister had her baby last night, around 9:15ish.
So now all of my siblings (including my older half-brother) have had children.
My sister has one (this one was her first.. my sis is 9 years yonger than me).
The older of my two younger brothers has one, a daughter.
The youngest of my two brothers has two, a son and a daughter (she was born last year).
And now, Josh’s brother is gonna be a daddy sometime early next year.
I hope to someday be able to join them in raising a kidlet of my own.
ETA: Sorry. It is a girl, about 7 lbs (don’t know how long she is). Her name is April.
something was definitely watching over him

When I went to go get dinner last night, I noticed I had a missed call & voice mail on my cell phone.
I listened to the message...
It was from my brother.
The one who was in the car accident.
My parents had told him that I had gone to the hospital when he was admitted and waited there until they got there.. he said he really appreciated what I did. His voice cracked and he started to get emotional, so said he loved me and ended the message.
I was surprised to hear from him. Well, the last I had heard from my mom (about 1.5 weeks ago) he was still only semi-conscious and was slurring a lot, and since head injuries can have unpredictable results, I wasn't expecting for the message to be from him. His speech in the voice mail was not slurred.
So I called the number back (it was my other brother's cell phone, which my parents have been carrying with them while they're down in Phoenix).. and he answered. We talked for about 5-10 minutes.
He's doing much better, the only lasting issues he has from the accident at this point is his left hand is a lot weaker than it used to be (also probably the left side of his body in general, although he only spoke about his hand), and his peripheral vision is toast (which might mean he won't be driving any time soon -- which is probably a good thing.. unknown whether this is a permanent loss). He's walking, too. So he was very, very lucky.
He's being released from the therapy home today, moved to a temporary facility where he will stay for another three days and get a psychological evaluation to determine what meds he will need to start taking (for his pre-existing disorders). The accident shook him up something fierce (which is what we were all hoping for), so he's finally going to do something about his mental health.
I really hope he sticks with it. He can be a really loving and dear person when he feels like it, but when he's on a down trip or cranked up on (illegal) drugs he turns into an asshole. I think part of the problem was he never felt like anyone loved him before (and it was really hard to show love to him when he was being a dickhead)... but with the accident, he got cards from family out of state, and he learned about how concerned some of them were about his welfare (my grandmother & great-aunt, specifically), and how diligent my parents were about staying at his bedside or at least near the hospital (particularly my mother, who he butted heads with like you wouldn't believe).. so I think now he knows that he is loved, and that it's high time he took care of his issues with himself.
We'll see how this goes. Like his recovery from the accident, it will be a day by day thing. I really hope he sticks with whatever program they put him on, for his sake, for my family's sake, and for his childrens' sakes.

'nother update on my brother...
Today he is conscious. He knows his name, and realizes he's strapped into the hospital bed, and isn't too happy about it.. He's now saying, "Get me out of here"... however his speech isn't clear, it's more or less slurred. Although we're not sure if this is because of grogginess or as a result of the brain injury... time will tell.
They're going to try to move him out of the ICU today, as well as try to feed him solid foods.
Thanks to everyone who's been keeping him in their thoughts &/or prayers.
