the day after halloween
Technically, anyway. But it’s still Halloween to me as I will be going to bed shortly.
Anyway. Carving pumpkins is tough work. Arms are tired.
Didn’t have very many trick-or-treaters this year. We have two big bowls and a grocery bag of candy left. I guess it’s going to work with us on Wednesday.
Overall a pretty uneventful evening. Off to bed now.
patriotic
On the way to work Saturday morning, as we were leaving the neighborhood, I noticed that someone had gone around and put little miniature flags in everyone’s yards (the little ones on sticks).
I’ll try to take a picture of ours in the next day or two. It’s just too darn hot out there and I’ve already been out twice today. I’m spending the rest of the day indoors (we just added a lot of chlorine to the pool so we have to wait a while before we can go swimming), at least until it gets dark.
:blank:
you say it’s your birthday…
Well, it was my birthday, yesterday. Whee! another year older.
I got cards from family, and I got these from Josh:
along with this:
Plus, I had yesterday off from work as my normal day off so I didn’t have to take a vacation day.
Blue Man Banana goo, dam traffic, and a car-b-que to boot
We went to Vegas Sunday afternoon for an overnight stay, with the obligitory visit to see Blue Man Group at the Luxor. We were 2nd row center. I dressed nice, in black slacks and a blue shirt (it was just a coincidence! really!). We’ve sat in the “poncho section” a couple of times before, and have yet to get wet or slopped on, including the one time we did wear the plastic ponchos (which was the very first show we saw).
Until now. Avert your eyes, show spoiler to follow in the extended….
Santa had it in for me…
First, a sculpting tutorial DVD I got for Christmas was blank (manufacturer error, seller is giving us the same tutorial on VHS and another tutorial on DVD to replace it), now my Home Cafe coffee maker is defective.
It leaked, a lot, from somewhere inside. From the very start, when I did the pre-brewing prepping by just sending plain water through it. A nice big puddle of water underneath.
The second try, with a coffee pod in place, not only did it leak again, but the brewing cycle got stuck “on”. Its cancel button ceased to function, and I had to unplug the thing to shut it off. I had chosen the 9 oz setting. It nearly overflowed a 16 oz cup since it was stuck.
Oh goodie. I called their customer service center and described the scenario. I was instructed to cut its cord about 6” from the plug (because there is a little piece of paper/tape toward the end with the serial nbr on it), and mail it in, and they’d ship me a new one.
It felt weird cutting the cord on an appliance. But, I guess it’s easier than shipping the whole thing to them.
Speaking of which… I suppose I should head on over to the post office this afternoon and get it sent off. I’m not even sure how long it will be before I get a replacement, since I forgot to ask. Whoops.
party hearty…
We’ll be off to the annual family xmas party shortly.
White Elephant gift exchange… where there’s always a good-natured fight over the Best Buy gift card Josh & I always bring.
Happy holidays, everyone!
sneeze & sniffle…
Bleh.
My sore throat from Saturday is gone. Yesterday I started to feel better.
Then today I started to get sneezy & stuffy.
Dammit I hope this is gone before Friday.
At least most of my Christmas shopping is done. I still have to brave Wally world later tonight to get a few more things for my side of the family. But I will be doing that probably at around 11:00pm or so, since they’re open 24 hrs. Hopefully there will be maybe half as many ppl shopping at that time of night than when I passed by there at three. The parking lot looked pretty full then.
I still haven’t done any decorating yet. Mainly ‘cuz the tree we have is a nine footer that I didn’t particularly care for putting together or taking apart last year (scratched the hell out of my arms), and I’ve been mulling over the idea of buying a cheap 6’ tree, maybe pre-lit. I think I saw one at Walgreens for about $40 but it was kinda wimpy. Meh. Maybe I’ll just pull out one of my little 24” trees instead. It’s already decorated. Heh.
I’m not sure I want to bother with the lights on the house this year, either. I dislike having to climb to the very top of the 8’ ladder to hang the lights over the garage. Most of the houses on our street are decorated, but there are still a couple that aren’t, so if I decide not to put up the lights, at least I won’t be the only one.
Anyway.. I guess I’ll go dig through my wrapping paper and get a few gifts wrapped up so at least those are done. This cold is doing little for my holiday spirit. Bleh.
It’s bear-y sweet!

Cute, isn't it? :o)
Sharing is caring..
A gift card/gift certificate to Aaron Brothers, JoAnn Etc, and "any place that sells shoes" from Josh's mom.
A gift card to Michael's art & craft from Josh's grandmother.
A gift card to Bath & Body Works from Josh's brother & sister-in-law.
A gift card to Best Buy & JoAnn Etc, and a Gold Canyon candle from Josh's dad.
(do we see a trend developing here? It's because I had no frigging CLUE what I wanted for Christmas, so I asked for gift cards)
From my side of the family, I got an angel snow globe from my niece (technically from my brother, but it said it was from his daughter).
A body splash / lotion combo from my parents..
A bottle of imitation perfume (imitating "Red") from my cousins.
And a model car, a 1932 Cadillac Sport Phaeton v16, from my dad. With a note that said "I've always wanted to buy you an expensive car". I thought it was touching and cute.. I know my dad has always wanted to buy me a car but hasn't ever been able to afford it... and probably never will.
Oh, and how can I forget.. I got a lithium-ion cordless Dremel tool from Josh, with an extra polishing set.. we already used it to polish the brass door knob in our bathroom (quite tarnished), and part of the door knob in my office.. Strangely those two were the only handles that are tarnished. But the polishing wheel works like a charm!
I also used it to polish some polymer clay items (non-dragon) rather than doing it by hand.. It didn't give them a high shine, but rather a matte shine (instead of the dull matte of baked clay).
And, as mentioned by Josh in his entry about his xmas haul, we also have a networked printer that was a gift to ourselves. It's wireless, even! I haven't used it yet, but I think Josh has and it works pretty well. Finally I won't have to transfer stuff I want to print to the little laptop we had hooked up to the other printer.. :o)
That about covers it. So, how did your holiday go?
Happy Holidays!
Well, I hope everyone has a great holiday. Don't get too stuffed on holiday goodies today!
