Those wedding bells…

Saturday, January 10, 2004
Yes, we finally decided upon a date.
I know I spoke last fall of probably getting married before the end of 2003, but we decided to take advantage of one last big tax refund by staying single for all of 2003. That's primarily how we'll be paying for the wedding, is with the big-ass tax refund. And if there is enough left over, we'll be getting a new washer & dryer set, too. (because our current set simply sucks.. they work, but the washer has eaten too many of my silk shirts, and the dryer has to be run twice to dry the clothes completely)

But anyway.. You're probably curious about what date we set, right?

That would be February 29. Yes, we chose the extra day added to 2004 to make it Leap Year. It's certainly a date you can't forget, since it only happens once every four years. Celebrating anniversaries may be interesting. Do we celebrate on Feb 28th? or March 1st? Or in the seconds between 11:59pm on Feb 28th and 12:00am on March 1st? Eh, we'll figure something out.

I realize that choosing a date so near doesn't leave much time to plan. It's not going to be anything huge, and it won't be in a church. I think we've decided to hold it in Josh's mom's back yard.. only problem is we didn't give her enough warning so the grass won't be green. I just hope the dry grass won't be causing anyone's allergies to kick in. 😕

Now, to spend my day (it's been slow here at work so far) doing what planning I can online.

To those who've done tied the knot already, out of curiosity, how long did you give yourself to plan your weddings?

Oh, for the love of god!!

Who in their right mind would let their children stay with someone who looks like THIS?!?!

That man is looking more and more like a walking corpse. Such a shame. He was fairly handsome back in the day. Now he's just a freak.

The hornets' nest has been stirred up, and lots of hornets are getting really pissed off.

That's all I will say for now.

So sad..

Car fire.

I saw this on the way to work yesterday, since my place of employment is off of Ray Rd and the I-10. When I saw the smoke on the horizon I knew right away it was a car fire. As I passed the accident (it was on the opposite side of the freeway), I think I caught a glimpse of a figure in the driver's seat of the burning car. I only glanced (had to pay attention to the cars in front of me, you know), so I am not sure. But after reading that two ladies died in that accident, what I saw in my fleeting glance might be correct.

Very, very sad.

What makes me angry about this accident, is that the whole cause of the accident was the person driving the Neon, who decided to stop IN THE FAST LANE rather than pull off to the side when they got a flat tire.

I'm not basing the statement that they were in the fast lane based on the article, I saw with my own eyes that they were NOT in the emergency breakdown lane. The accident was in the fast lane, because if it had been in the emergency lane, I would not have been able to see the entire Intrepid from the lane I was in, the cement divider would have blocked the view.

So after learning what caused the accident, all I can think of is why did the driver in the Neon not pull into the emergency lane? They had a flat tire. Even if it blew out, (they obviously maintained enough control to bring it to a "safe" stop), they still could have managed to pull into the emergency lane. That is what that lane is for, for pete's sake. While not recommended, a car can still be driven on a flat tire, or even its rims if absolutely necessary.

Maybe the person panicked, but I mean, come on. I would like to think that if I were in a situation like that, that I'd have the presence of mind to get my ass out of immenent danger and get my car out of a lane in which most drivers speed along at 70+ mph. But I've never been in that kind of situation, so who knows.

Road Trip #2

Sunday, November 09, 2003
Off to see the Grand Opening of the Big Room at Kartchner Caverns today. We get a whole four hours to roam around and take lots of pictures, although we're technically supposed to refrain from using the flash when possible. We'll see how that works on the digitals. I am pretty sure I can set mine to take low-light pictures. If not, I'll just take a few with flash.

Toodles!

it’s about time!

Friday, October 31, 2003
About a mile or two from our home is a fairly major intersection.

For a while, the only thing on the corner of that intersection was a Walgreen's, on the northwest corner. On the southeast corner is the block fencing of an old-folk's neighborhood. On the southwest corner, also block fencing for an old folk's neighborhood. On the northeast corner, was an empty lot. For like two years.

Oh, and it was a four-way stop at the intersection, no stop-light.

Takin' a road trip for the next few days, to Vegas.

Gonna stay at Excalibur... go see Blue Man Group... and do some walkin' of the Strip of we're up to it... Maybe we'll win some money, but usually our luck isn't very good. We'll see.

why is it that…

...when I'm reading quotes from Schwarzenegger regarding being newly elected and all his new promises, I can't do it without 'hearing' his accent in my head?

Lasik update

Friday, October 03, 2003
I didn't post anything last night because when I got home (around 7:30 or so), my eyes were burning rather fiercely.

The rubber suction ring that is used to hold the eye in place while the flap is being cut, scratched my left eye, so I was given a prescription of pain medication. They also gave me a small prescription for sleeping meds if I felt I needed them. So when we got home, I ate enough to put something in my stomach since the pain meds can't be taken on an empty stomach, and then I went to bed.

Josh woke me up at 10pm so I could take my next set of eye drops (the first ones were given to me at the eye center before I left), and then I went back to sleep.

I had to be up early this morning for my post-op appointment at 7:35a. Even though I had plenty of sleep, my eyes, while no longer burning, still wanted to sleep. I snoozed on the way to and from the dr's office.

This morning my vision was 20/40, which is tons better than it used to be. I think it was probably at 20/600 before.

My eyes are dry and my vision fluctuates, which they said is normal. I hope it clears up well enough so that when I go in for another follow up appointment next Friday, my vision will be better than 20/40. I would hate to have to wear glasses after all that work, even weak ones, but all of their documentation did warn that that may be a possibility.

I am hoping that won't be the case.

Well, I've got a timer going to tell me when to put in my next set of drops and that will be in about 10 more minutes.. After that I am going to go take a nap to see if that helps some more.

my nerves are bad enough right now as it is..

Thursday, October 02, 2003
they've delayed my appointment until noon today. gah!

My nerves are so bad I could barely eat. I think I had one egg and two or three pieces of bacon.

Greasey food may be good for hangovers (so I've heard), but it certainly doesn't do anything for nervous tummies. I'm thinking something like oatmeal may be better, but I don't think I'm yet able to have oatmeal on this Atkin's thing. Especially pre-packaged sweetened oatmeal, which is all we really have right now.

Dammit. Now I've got another hour & fifteen minutes to find something to do until it's time to leave.

Maybe I'll continue working on one of my sculptures. That should be soothing, I think.
