(written @ 5:40pm)They do this on purpose, I know they do.
I was just sitting down, had perused some of the blogs I visit (remembering domains by memory because Blogrolling appeared to be down for maintenance)... and then I decided it was time to finally change my eBay ID to coinicide with my domain name. I had just tuned WinAmp to a favorite streaming station and it had run for about a minute when what happens next?
My cable internet bites the big one.
*frown* Get up and go unplug the cable modem, count to 15. Plug cable modem back in. No lighty-lighty. Grr.
Call Cox tech support.
CSR: How long ago did it go down?
Me: Less than five minutes ago.
CSR: Let me check some things. (pause) Do me a favor and unplug the cable modem for about 5-10 seconds and plug it back in.
Me: Ok. (obliging, even tho' I'd already done that) It's plugged back in. Cable light didn't even attempt to flicker except when the power plug was put back in.
CSR: Hmm. Let me check your neighbors to see if there's an outage. (pause) Wow. Yup, there's definitely an outage--about a six to seven block area.
Me: Figures.
So he goes about reporting my outage report and sets up a tentative dispatch (procedure, tracking purposes) for tomorrow even though chances are it will be fixed today.
Dammit. Guess I have to pull out some CDs to listen to instead. There's a specific type of music I prefer to listen to when I'm either A) at work, or B) at home sitting at my desk, and it's mostly new agey stuff, Celtic and whatnot. I usually have a couple of Shoutcast stations bookmarked that I pick from that are new age/ambient, and that is usually what I listen to. I do have CDs of my own that are ambient/new age/celtic, but sometimes I prefer the mix that I get from the stations. Oh well.
I wonder how long this outage is gonna last?
Eh. I've got some sculpting to do anyway.
Update: Entry added @ 8:00p, outage lasted almost 2.5 hrs. Not too bad I guess.
Flowers from my sweetie
Aren't they pretty?
They're from my honey, Josh. He brought them to me last night (Thursday) on his way home from work. Isn't he sweet?
1 week post op
My eyes tested at 20/25 this morning. Both still have slight astigmatism, which may or may not go away. But I really only notice it with things in the distanceThe flaps look good.
The only thing of concern is my right eye and the sensation of something being in it. If it persists I am to call my eye doctor to let him know.
But I have a theory about my right eye (and why it's just the right one, I don't know)... When I went into the eye dr's this morning, my eye felt ok. The feeling of something being in it was very, very minor, almost unnoticeable. At that point, the only eye drops I had used were the rewetting drops, none of the medicated ones. They were both slightly dry, but otherwise nothing uncomfortable.
On the way to work from the eye dr's office, I started putting in my medicated eye drops. I could see better while driving this morning than I have all week. After about an hour after I got to work, my right eye started feeling extremely dry, and the sensation of something being in it came back noticeably.
So, I figure it's either a combination of the medicated eye drops and my office's internal environment, or just my office's internal environment. I guess I will find out on Monday which of those holds true, as today was officially the last full day I have to take the medicated eye drops.
Technically I can stop wearing the goggles while I sleep at night, too, but I think I'm going to keep wearing those for just a couple nights more for my own peace of mind.

I decided today would be a good day to do some yard work, i.e. weed killing. The front yard was simple, only a few here and there, and then after weeds removed, I sprayed the spots where they had been growing with the White Death (that is, the all vegetation killer). Our front yard is all rock landscaping, so this is no issue.
Then I moved to the back yard. A few more back here, mostly in large clusters. I also use the White Death on these.
Our yard is au naturale except for a patch of grass about 20' x 10'. So it is mostly dirt & rocks, except for that bit of grass next to our very small concrete slab that is our patio. Oh, and the weeds, of course.
We've not been very good about weed killing. Last year I think we just let the weeds grow and die naturally. So now, there are a bunch of dead weeds congregating in various places about the yard, mostly near the south side of the house. Really close to the house. So this could be a potential fire hazard.
So I decide to start wacking away at those with a shovel and a rake. Some of the weeds are new so they're still green, so I take the shovel to them and dig them up.
A couple have inter-mingled with our grass at its edge, so I have to carefully untangle those. Then I discover I've stirred up a colony of black ants. And boy are they pissed! I think three got on my hand and bit me, but as far as I am aware I am not allergic to ant bites. There was some old ant bait sitting on the patio so I grabbed that and spread it about, hoping that it is still poisonous. It probably isn't, so the next time our Bug Man comes by, we'll have to let him know we've got several ant colonies about our home, please treat for them.
But anyway, I got one giant pile of dead weeds that I watered down and after I've cooled off a bit (hey, it's still over 90 degrees out here, ya know), I'm going to go back out and stuff them into garbage bags. The weeds were on either side of our patio, and I only got one side piled up, but I watered the other side down before I go rake them to keep the dust down.
I guess it's a good thing I hadn't showered yet today, 'cause I'll definitely need a shower after I'm done with the yard. Yuck.
why is it that…
...when I'm reading quotes from Schwarzenegger regarding being newly elected and all his new promises, I can't do it without 'hearing' his accent in my head?yeah, I know
The few that read this may have been wondering what was up with me since I hadn't written anything in like, what, four days? Particularly since I'd only posted once since my Lasik surgery.Well, for the most part, it was for eye comfort. Reading computer screens wasn't much fun the first couple of days with my close vision being all wonky. I managed at work ok on Saturday, but by the end of the day, I sat down at home long enough to peruse my email and that was about it. Sunday, I mostly did other stuff because my weekend was going to be really short. As in one day long, because of the new schedule at work beginning this week, where I start working M/T/Th/F.
The last couple of days, really hasn't been much to write about, so I didn't bother. But I'll be putting at least one more post up before I go to bed tonight...
update on my eyes.
They're doing ok so far. My left eye's vision is better than the right one. If I had to venture a guess I'd say my left is at around 20/30, maybe 20/25. The right one, I'm guessing is still at around 20/40. It kind of bothers me 'cause I can tell there is a difference between them, especially with distance vision. Close vision is about the same, but I think the left may be just a tad worse than the right one in that respect. My right eye feels like there is something in it almost constantly. My left is only once in a while with that sensation. The scratch that occured on my left eye is virtually gone, there is only a hint of redness where the scratch was. So that is good.
My follow up appointment is on Friday, which is also the day I technically can stop taking the eye drops. I hope everything checks out ok on Friday, but one thing I'm definitely going to ask about if it hasn't gone away by then is the constant feeling of something being in my right eye. It's quite annoying, especially since I cannot rub my eyes..
Lasik update

I didn't post anything last night because when I got home (around 7:30 or so), my eyes were burning rather fiercely. The rubber suction ring that is used to hold the eye in place while the flap is being cut, scratched my left eye, so I was given a prescription of pain medication. They also gave me a small prescription for sleeping meds if I felt I needed them. So when we got home, I ate enough to put something in my stomach since the pain meds can't be taken on an empty stomach, and then I went to bed.
Josh woke me up at 10pm so I could take my next set of eye drops (the first ones were given to me at the eye center before I left), and then I went back to sleep.
I had to be up early this morning for my post-op appointment at 7:35a. Even though I had plenty of sleep, my eyes, while no longer burning, still wanted to sleep. I snoozed on the way to and from the dr's office.
This morning my vision was 20/40, which is tons better than it used to be. I think it was probably at 20/600 before.
My eyes are dry and my vision fluctuates, which they said is normal. I hope it clears up well enough so that when I go in for another follow up appointment next Friday, my vision will be better than 20/40. I would hate to have to wear glasses after all that work, even weak ones, but all of their documentation did warn that that may be a possibility.
I am hoping that won't be the case.
Well, I've got a timer going to tell me when to put in my next set of drops and that will be in about 10 more minutes.. After that I am going to go take a nap to see if that helps some more.
that helped a little

Sculpting was a little theraputic. It usually is.We'll be leaving shortly. I need to go find a book to take with me for all the time I'll be waiting around. I'll be taking my PDA as well. Gotta have something to do while I wait.
I'll write again when I return home, as long as I can see well enough. If I can't, I'll try to type up something like I did the other day by touch type, and hope that I don't mess up too much. My vision may be corrected at that point, but if the dilating does the same thing it did the other day, corrected vision won't do me much good, at least for a little while. ;o)
Tah for now.
my nerves are bad enough right now as it is..
they've delayed my appointment until noon today. gah!My nerves are so bad I could barely eat. I think I had one egg and two or three pieces of bacon.
Greasey food may be good for hangovers (so I've heard), but it certainly doesn't do anything for nervous tummies. I'm thinking something like oatmeal may be better, but I don't think I'm yet able to have oatmeal on this Atkin's thing. Especially pre-packaged sweetened oatmeal, which is all we really have right now.
Dammit. Now I've got another hour & fifteen minutes to find something to do until it's time to leave.
Maybe I'll continue working on one of my sculptures. That should be soothing, I think.
