but for a charity…
A co-worker here is collecting tabs.. you know, the pop-tops from soda cans.
Once upon a time it used to be a mere urban legend, that pop-tops were collected and used to help pay for sick childrens’ medical care, etc. But apparently since 1987, good ol’ McDonald’s is giving people a sense of “doing their part for charity” by accepting the collected pop-tops and taking them to recyclers. The money collected goes towards the Ronald McDonald House funds.
I was curious about the growing collection of soda tabs on my co-worker’s desk, so I read the letter that was taped to the ziplock bag that lay open & waiting for new donations… It essentially says exactly what the Snopes site above says about the collection of them for the purpose of going towards the Ronald McDonald House. Maybe not word for word, but the gist of it.
My thoughts echoed those at Snopes… collecting whole cans would be more cost effecient, and net more money. But each to his own, I guess….
