I get e-mail from eBay every now and then, because I asked for them. (just specific news letters). Recently, I got one that was a "Toys, Hobbies, Dolls & Bears Seller Newsletter". In it was a list of "Hot Selling Items". In that list was a link for Magic: The Gathering.
I clicked that link.
Found a few cards that were selling for a couple hundred dollars.
We have a bunch of MTG cards, I wonder if any of mine are worth anything?
So I dug them out. Browsed the web for price lists (approximate). Realized that I have mostly Revised edition, and some 4th, some 5th, and a few expansion releases. Only a small handful of Unlimited edition.
Unlimited edition is where some of the more expensive cards are, in addition to those from the Alpha & Beta editions. The most expensive card I have in that small handful of Unlimiteds is probably worth about $3.00. Damn.
There are some in the Revised edition that are worth more. I think we have one that, if it were in mint condition, would probably net us around $20.00. There are others that range from $3.00 to $8.00, maybe one or two around $10.00-$12.00.
Then a few in the expansions that are around $5-$10.00.
Those are high estimates, however, and based off of what I could find on the 'net. I plan on buying an official price guide from Scrye, if I can find a local store that has one in stock. Otherwise I'll be ordering it online.
I don't even know how many cards we have, but there are many. Two boxes that measure about 12" in length, both full, plus some cards still in their original starter deck boxes, those number around seven or eight.
So, if we have the price guide by the weekend, we'll be going through our numerous cards and determining if there are any really worth selling, or if we should just hang on to them a little longer.
And I swear we had more cards than what I found, but I've looked just about everywhere that I thought we had them stashed. Oh well. I wonder if I should start stalking garage sales to see if any poor, clueless sap is selling a bunch of cards and knows not the value of what they have? Eh. That'd probably be more effort than it's worth.
That's all, folks...
