I've been sitting around for four weeks like a doofus, under the mistaken impression that the court will diligently mail our certified marriage license back to us.Apparently, they keep it.
And to get a certified copy, WE have to call up the Clerk of the Court (or write them), and send a check for $18.00 + $5.00 handling fee, and wait two to three weeks for them to mail it to us.
Of course, we just assumed that the license would be mailed to us, well, because NOWHERE have I read that it doesn't just get mailed to us. NOWHERE. It doesn't even say that in the name-change kit that I bought. All I ever saw was, "when they mail you your license back", everywhere I looked.
Leaving out a minor, yet oh-so-important, detail there, aren't we?!
Dammit.
