upgrading…

Monday, November 22, 2004

EE v 1.2 came out yesterday, so I’ll be taking the blogs offline to upgrade.

Hopefully I won’t break anything.. the last few times I’ve upgraded I had no issues, so hopefully the same will be for this upgrade.

captchas should be working again…

Saturday, November 20, 2004

And I’m fairly certain I know what caused them to break…

About two weeks ago I opened a ticket with our web host to have them change a few file ownership permissions because EE creates some files as “nobody”, which cannot be changed by us.  It even uploads images like that, so I wouldn’t be able to delete them in that case.

So, I asked the host to change the FILES’ ownership permissions.  The dingbats ended up changing the files AND their parent folder’s permissions all at one time.

So I had my images folder’s perms incorrect and didn’t realize it.  Even though I had the captcha’s folder chmod’d to the right perms, I guess the “image” folder also needed to be set that way.  It wasn’t, so the images weren’t writing.

Then I screwed up the path name in the captcha config, too, in trying to figure out what was wrong.

So anyway, it’s all fixed now.

Please don’t hesitate to write to me (the link is over there on the right!) if something is broken, especially the comments, please!  I don’t comment in my comments often, so if it’s broken, ya need to let me know so I can fix it.  😊

so much for that idea..

So I jinxed myself by claiming “Saturdays usually aren’t very busy”.

Ha!

As soon as I posted that and took the site offline, and started backing up my files to prep for the code update, things started to pick up around here.  Bah!

Of course, it doesn’t help that we’re short one person today.
So I didn’t get to update the code like I wanted to, I’ll have to do that sometime this weekend and hope it fixes the captcha issue so I can turn that function back on.

Bleh.  🙄

taking site offline for a while…

There seems to be a newer version of 1.1 available for download, so I’m going to try updating the site to see if that fixes the captcha problem.  I’ve tried a couple different suggestions other than a reload of the site, and so far it still isn’t happy.  I guess its’ a good thing Saturdays aren’t super busy at work. 😕

comments were borked a little…

For some reason my captcha’s stopped showing up, so I disabled them until I can figure out why.

It’s also broken for membership signup, so you’ll have to bear with me until I can get it fixed.

I just love it when this shit happens.

lofty ideas…

Saturday, November 06, 2004

As I sit here on my last day of work for the week, with five hours to go, I am perusing Stockstash.com in search of images.  Images that I think I may want to use for designing skins for my site.

I had the fleeting thought of setting a goal to create one new design each month, one that fits with that month’s “personality”, (i.e., December = Christmas, January = winter, August = summer/hot, etc.), but I don’t know if I’d be able to stick to it.

So I’ll take it by baby-steps.  If I redesign for a particular month, cool.  If not, no big whoop.

I’m starting with January, and so far have found some pretty neat winter scenes, with snow, even!  So what if we don’t get much of that in Phoenix, or that I don’t particularly care to be around snow, but it certainly looks pretty.

I think I have enough of those, so, on to February.  Roses, chocolates… Let’s see what I can find. 😊

playing catch up…

Saturday, October 23, 2004

I have started to slack with my posts here, but I think that has a lot to do with the fact that only one of us can be remote-desktop’d to home, and I try to refrain from posting very often while at work if I can’t RDP.

Plus, with our current schedule, waking up at 4:10a and leaving by 5a to head to work, then finally leaving work at 4p and getting home by 5pm-ish, leaves very little time to eat, catch up on some shows on TiVo, and then off to bed by around 8:30-9p…  I spend maybe 5 minutes on my Powerbook skimming email (either before leaving in the morning, or just before bed at night), just so it doesn’t pile up.

So, there really isn’t much time for anything like blogging.  Unless I do it from work (like today).

Work was busy this week.  A little more than usual, it seemed.  It actually made me really glad we got moved to the 2nd half of the week, so we only have to endure 3 days of “normal business hours” instead of five.

I’m working on three knitting projects right now.  One, which is nearly complete, is a huge afghan the husband requested, in purples & blues.  It’s about 6ft wide, and will be about 6ft long when it’s done.  And dayam, that thing weighs a ton!  Oh, made of miscellaneous yarns, all acrylic (and some leftover chenille on one section).

The second is a baby afghan for my sister-in-law’s baby, due in Feb.  Only just starting it, maybe have about six inches done.  Also acrylic yarns, but “quality” acrylics from the LYS I work(ed*) at.  In lilac, yellow, & a multi-color pink/lilac/yellow (three strands held together).

The third is another baby sweater.  I decided instead of giving the mint green one I made earlier this summer to the SIL for her baby, that I’ll give that one to my sister instead (she had a little girl in july), and make a new one in white & pink for the SIL’s baby.  It’s a top-down raglan, maybe 1/4 done.  Also quality acrylic from the LYS.

I also have a few UFO’s sitting in wait…

I think that’s all the UFOs.. And I have a project in mind that I’ll work on after I finish Josh’s afghan, (mainly because I need the size 15 needles the afghan is currently using), which should knit up pretty quickly as it will only require two skeins of boucle.. a shawl that I can wear when I go to restaraunts that leave their freezing cold A/C on that always seems to blow straight onto me while we’re dining…

That’s about it for the knitting.

I decided to join Blog Explosion (yeah, I know everyone else jumped on that band wagon like, last week or something… so I’m slow) to see what kind of traffic it can really give me.  I just signed up today, so my blog is in the “waiting for approval” status at this point.  If you visit via BE, please be sure to drop a comment to say hi so I know it’s working for me. 😉

Well, I guess I should get back to work.  Oh joy.

photos for you…

Sunday, October 03, 2004

Ok, now on to the photos, as promised.

The MIL wanted the following:

1. Your newest dragon creation.
2. Your little green Saturn.
3. Your T.V.

Then Sprite asked for the following:

1. Your computer/desk area one of each, since you can’t see the computer in the desk area shot
2. View from your favorite window. There are only two windows in the house that have anything remotely interesting to see, and they’re both in the front.
3. The inside of your fridge

And finally, Josh asked for these:

1) The fire-hazard called your office.  This warrants two pics, ‘cause it’s such a mess I couldn’t get it all in one shot.
2) The ODOMETER on your li’l green Saturn.
3) The giant wad of hair you leave after shampooing your head.
It’s not quite as big as it can be, though.

And that’s all that was requested for now.

observation about one of the memes that’s big right now…

Thursday, September 30, 2004

Ok.  So I’m reading the sites of those doing the 3 photos meme.
It’s kind of cool to see the miscellaneous requests that they are getting.

I may even consider doing it myself, if enough people express an interest.

But that’s not the point of my post.

My observation is about some of those who were asked to take a photo of their computer, and they post a photo of their monitor.  Maybe it’s just me, but frankly, I think unless you have an iMac or one of those all-in-one WinDoze boxes like an iMac, or a laptop, your monitor is not your computer, people.  The computer is the rectangular (or cubular) box that usually sits under your desk, with about a million cables plugged into it.  You know, the thing you feed the CDs and DVDs to in order to install a program, to burn music, etc.

Meh.  If I were asked to post a photo of my computer, you’d either get a pic of La Powerbook, or my l’il Sony that sits at my feet, under my desk at home.  Not my monitor.  ‘Cause, I mean, it’s the computer that does all the hard work, with the processor and hard drive and RAM and CD/DVD drives & video card & sound card… The monitor just makes it easy to see the result of the computer’s hard work, ya know?

Anyway, I just felt like griping a little, I guess.  I blame it on cramps.
