one squirming baby, comin’ right up

Saturday, January 28, 2006

Yes, I’m still around.  Been busy with the kidlet here… Typing with one hand is not as easy as one might think.

Anyway, Josh put up a web page with some pix, request it in the comments if you want it, but don’t worry if I don’t get back to you right away, I’m lucky if I get to check my email once every few days at this time.

Quick stats:  Born 1/18/06 @ 3:17p.m., 8 lbs, 20.5” long.

take a nap

Tuesday, January 17, 2006

That was what was suggested to us by J’s best friend.

Oh that I could… But my nerves are keeping me wide awake.

We even tried staying up until almost five a.m. last night, and didn’t set the alarm, yet we still woke up shortly after 11 a.m.  We had intended on sleeping as long as we could.  Ha!

Remember way back when you were a kid, and how no matter how hard you tried, you couldn’t sleep on Christmas Eve?  Well, I was like that, anyway.  It was either no sleep, or it at least took forever to fall asleep, and then I was up before everyone else was to “peek” at what Santa left everyone under the tree… and snoop in my stocking.

That’s about how I feel today, that same level of anxiousness.

I think I’m going to go set up the pack-n-play in our bedroom.  That’ll kill some time.

I need a pellet gun

Sunday, January 08, 2006

I like animals.  Dogs, cats, birds, fish, reptiles… I would own a couple of everything if it didn’t make me look crazy.  The only thing you wouldn’t find gracing my homestead would be pet insects (you know, the giant tarantulas and scorpions - yuck!!).  And I’ve previously owned almost all of those, I even had a rat at one point.  The only one I haven’t owned personally was reptiles, but my brother had that covered.  He owned a few lizards.  Oh wait!  A long time ago I had a couple of box turtles, too.  Are those considered reptiles?  Meh, I have no idea.

Anyway, I just wanted to preface this post with that before I go on to say, there are a couple of neighborhood dogs that need to be popped in the ass with a pellet gun.  Or their owners do.

I hate waking up to incessant barking from a neighborhood dog.  Every now and then the one directly behind us pulls that crap, but he/she is getting better at not doing it so much.  The neighbors got him as a young pup but would leave him outside at night, and the barking and yipping was almost unbearable.  A couple of times I was tempted to steal the damn dog and bring him inside my house just so he would stop barking and not be so lonely.

There’s also another dog somewhere, I’m not even sure which street he’s on but I am pretty sure it’s south of us, who barks practically non-stop for at least an hour in the mornings.

woof woof woof!
woof woof woof!
woof woof woof!

In triplets, just like that.  And when you’re trying to get as much sleep as possible before a baby graces your presence?  It’s FRICKIN ANNOYING!!

Our next door neigbhors have a pug.  Even he gets in on the barking episodes.  Only his are, “yap yap yap yap yap yap!”

Unfortunately, most of these animals probably pull this crap when their owners aren’t home, so I doubt they’re even aware their pets are doing this and annoying their neighbors.  And I’m too chicken to go leaving notes on ppls doors saying, “hey, your dog barks practically non-stop when you’re not home, can you please look into ways to resolve this?”, so I guess I just have to continue to put up with it and bitch about it here. :cheese:

Seriously though, I wouldn’t actually go and shoot a dog with a pellet gun, that’s just not right.  But I can certainly imagine it, if nothing but to satisfy my inner-evil twin..

fix’r up

Friday, December 30, 2005

J and his dad picked up a new battery for the VUE yesterday…

Next up is a new windshield on Tuesday, and then its long overdue oil change after that.

Usually we hit the milage on the recommended next service before the three month period, but since we haven’t been driving it, we surpassed the time period this time… We even got a letter from the dealer “reminding” us it was due for service.  Hehe.

Gotta get it in working order before the baby comes, since I’ll be staying home longer than J will and will need a car after he goes back to work.

Then when I go back to work, I hope whatever mystery problem it had with just up and dying on the freeway for no apparent reason doesn’t come back to bite one of us in the ass (since one or the other of us will be driving it, the other one driving the ION, as we will not be on the same shift anymore)..  If it does come back, that is going to be a royal PITA because last time when it did that, it didn’t trigger a flag in its computer so Saturn wasn’t able to “see” the problem when we took it to them…

One ticket to Insanityville, please

Wednesday, December 28, 2005

Want to know how to drive me nuts in short order?

Record my co-worker speaking.  And then play it back, looped forever.

I will bludgeon myself to unconsciousness with the nearest stick to escape it.

Ok, so maybe that’s a bit of an exaggeration, but only a tiny bit.  This person’s voice does start to grate on my nerves after a while.

I am SO looking forward to maternity leave… I’d rather listen to a screaming baby than my co-worker at this point.

No offense to this person or anything, certain sounds just get to me after a while.  And today is one of those days.

antsy pants

Saturday, December 24, 2005

The problem with working a half day is that you just don’t want to do anything while you’re there…

It’s worse when the half day you’re working happens to be on Christmas Eve, and the reason you took the half day was so that you could attend a Christmas party that evening.

At least we’re half way through our half day… three hours to go and we can leave!  Yay!

wonderful timing, WF

Tuesday, December 20, 2005

You know, I understand the bank is only looking out for our best interest with our money, but to halt my debit card because “there have been a lot of charges on your account recently”, after making only ONE attempt to contact us (I wasn’t home, and I think J was in the shower), and not even leaving a message??

That’s pretty damn lame.

I mean, I was trying to pay for some stuff at Walgreens, and my card wouldn’t work as debit or credit.  I had to use my credit card to pay for it, and then when I went over to the bank to try the ATM machine, it spat it back out at me.  Fortunately the live tellers were still there, looked at my acct and noted the card had been frozen, but only the ppl at the customer service desk (over the phone) could help me unfreeze it.

It was really quick, all I had to do was verify who I was and verify the charges that I made today and one from yesterday, and they unlocked my card again.

But still, the timing sucks.

hide and seek

Monday, December 19, 2005

The way I hang on to stuff you’d think finding a receipt would be a piece of cake, right?

Puh.  Normally, yes.  But after the kitchen got a thorough cleaning a couple of weeks ago, it seems the receipt in question crawled away to hide forever.

At some point it did enter my office because I put the charge amount into Quicken.. but where it went from there is a mystery right now.  Normally it would have stayed in my office in a pile of other receipts, but because we intended on returning something later with it, I thought I had put it out somewhere where we’d see it and not lose it.  Ha!

And just in case we never find it, I’m sitting on hold for Best Buy trying to get through to their customer service desk to find out if they’re able to look stuff up in their computer for returns, but so far I’ve spent about 20 some minutes on hold, only to be hung up on, and now am about 15 minutes into another hold cycle.  Oh goodie.  I do have to go down there later to get some additional shopping done and return something else, but I wanted to call ahead of time to ask so I know whether bringing the item I want to rerturn without its receipt is going to be worth the effort or not.

  😕

Update: Best Buy was able to look up the purchase in their system, I think mostly because we had purchased the item wtih the Best Buy credit card…

no need to rush!

Saturday, December 17, 2005

Yesterday left us wondering if our little baby is even going to stay in and cook until her due date…

We spent about 2 hrs at labor & delivery at the hospital because my usual braxton hicks contractions were getting a little too close together.  Normally they are about 20-30 minutes apart, when I even notice them… Yesterday, they ranged from 3-15 minutes apart before we went to the hospital, and then were between 1.5-6 minutes apart once I got hooked up to the monitors…

It was a false alarm though, the doctor thinks they were spurred by the internal exam I got that morning at my 35 week appointment.  They’re back to “normal” today, at 20-30 minutes apart, which doesn’t concern the doctors.  Plus, they’re not painful, just uncomfortable sometimes, since it tends to feel like someone is squeezing me with a giant piece of Ace bandage…

For those who care, I was a “fingertip” dilated yesterday (at both my appointment and later at the hospital).

Any bets on when prismaticdragon Jr is going to make her grand entrance?
  😊

adventures in line camping

Saturday, November 26, 2005

Josh and I were about the 40th persons in line at Best Buy at around 12:30a.m.  The line had at least doubled by 8a.m., although it looked longer behind us than it did in front of us.
