runnin out of gas…
I’m beat today. Tired, zonked. Falling asleep at my desk. Bah.
That’s what five hours of sleep will do to ya I suppose. Although in a few short months, five hours will seem like paradise I’d imagine…
neglected…
This poor little blog. I’ve been neglecting it.
I always tell myself I will update this thing more often, but I never get around to doing so.
I mean, look at it - it’s been two whole months since my last post. Makes for a pretty boring place.
So, the last two months in a nutshell:
* Took the truck to Saturn, they did replace the sending unit for the gas tank at no charge to us. Unfortunately, the minor crack we had on the windshield that snaked around the rear view mirror (thus rendering the crack nearly invisible to us from the inside), “grew” after they washed the car. Three arms sprouted off of the original crack, so now we have to replace the stupid thing before we can drive it again. Yeah, we’re putting it off for now. So the truck sits, and we didn’t even get to test it to see if the gas sending unit was the cause of they mystery engine problems.
* Work is the same old crap. Nothing new there.
* Went to Vegas with Josh’s brother & SIL. Spent first night at the Best Western Mardi Gras. Checked out the next day and moved to the Luxor because the beds at BW were terrible. I do NOT recommend anyone ever stay at that BW. The ppl were ok, but the beds were crap.
* Baby growing ok. Only three months left! Got spare bed taken out of the room that will be the nursery, but have yet to begin decorating nursery. Crap! Only three months left! Better get busy with that!
* Crib on layaway at Baby Depot. $250 for a bed that will convert to a toddler bed, a small daybed, and then to a full size bed later. Will probably use Josh’s old dresser rather than buy a new one to save some money. I think it may need some new bottoms in the drawers though.
Um, that’s all that really stands out in my mind at the moment.
As for this weekend… On Sunday I am going to go stand in line with dozens of other ppl to wait for a flu shot. I should’ve gotten one sooner since I qualify for the “high risk” category, but I was debating it, and after seeing one pharmacy that was packed to the gills with old folk, I opted to wait. I almost wasn’t going to get one since I hardly ever get the flu, but then I got to thinking, it would be just my dumb luck that I’d get it this year when it would be very dangerous to both me and the squirt.
While I’m at the store and after I get the shot, I am going to buy a couple of pumpkins and some carving tools. I’ve never carved a pumpkin (that I recall, anyway), and wanted to try it this year. Plus, since we’ll most likely be home on Monday night, a couple of pumpkins will help decorate the porch for the trick-or-treaters. I’ll probably carve them on Monday afternoon since it is supposed to be in the 80s on Halloween, and they probably wouldn’t fair too well in the warm air. Now I just need to decide whether to do some simple carving, or go right for the complicated stuff and do a two-sided carving. Meh. Probably will do the simple stuff this year.
So there you have it. All caught up!
made another blog…
No, I’m not abandoning this one, although I’ve posted more entries today than in the past two weeks… But anyway, I made a blog using WordPress for my pregnancy and future baby stuff. If you’re intrested in getting the URL, you’ll need to email me, or post a comment requesting it.
I chose WordPress for that blog as it has password-protection on the entries built into the program, rather than having to hack it myself like I sort of did with EE here, and with that, it only prevents anyone who wasn’t registered and approved in a certain category from reading the posts, which required tweaking the templates to get it to hide the posts to the general public. Probably more work than it was worth as I don’t use it much.
But anyway… as I said, anyone interested in the URL, comment here or send me an email.
‘we burned the beans’
That was their excuse.
Since when do burnt beans smell like cigarettes?? And taste like it??
I know what burned food tastes like, and I’m sorry, but what I tasted last night was NOT it.
I tried looking up on Jeeves “what burned refried beans smell like”, but it didn’t come up with anything helpful. Does anyone out there know what they smell like? Do they really smell like cigarettes, or was the manager just trying to find a convenient way out of a potential fiasco?
Oh, and I did get my money back. All $2.25 and tax. Whee!
that smokehouse flavor…
If only I were talking about almonds…
Last night at around midnight, Josh and I were hungry (I’m almost always hungry since I swear my stomach has shrunk, and I can only eat so much at a time anymore), so we decided, since it’s midnight and little else is open, to get some Del Taco.
About all I can stomach from there anymore is burritos and fries. I used to get burritos with red sauce, but baby says ‘no way’ to even that mild stuff, so plain bean & cheese it is.
So I ordered two plain, and one with green sauce (since that is what Josh likes), and a few other things, paid, and went on my merry way.
I got home, doled out which food belonged to whom, and opened my burrito wrapping, slapped some sour cream on the paper (I must have sour cream!), dipped the burrito in the sour cream and took a bite.
OH.MY.GAWD. If I were the type that puked easily, I would have. The damn thing tasted like cigarettes!! I sniffed it to make sure I wasn’t imagining things. Yep, cigarettes. I asked Josh to smell it. He smelled it too. He smelled his, then tossed it into the bag. His also smelled of cigarettes. I smelled the second burrito of mine, which also smelled of cigarettes.
We tried calling the store, but there was no answer (which is stupid, as they’re open 24 hrs!). So Josh called the 800# line and left a message reporting their asses. The smell just permeated the whole burrito, including inside in the beans.... Either someone was emptying the ashtrays into the beans, or some heavy chain smoker made them without washing their hands first! UGH! The rest of the food was fine, so it was just whoever made the burritos.
I wrapped them up in their paper wrappings and stuck them into a ziplock bag and into the fridge (hoping the smell would be maintained), so I can go down there today and throw it in their faces and demand my money back (which is probably a whole whopping $2). IN addition, I plan on calling the friggin health department on Tuesday to report the store as well. If that isn’t a health violation, I don’t know what is!
ffwaah…
It stinks around here. Outside, that is.
The big Cave Creek Complex fire, burning in NE Phoenix is the main culprit.. But, another, smaller fire north of Lake Pleasant (which is pretty much straight north of where we live), has joined the party. Along with several other smaller fires around the outskirts of town.
So, we walk outside, and the smell of smoke fills the air. peeeu!
At least nearly all the fires so far this year were started by mother nature. The lightning shows we had these past couple of nights were pretty awesome. Some parts of town got rain (down at work today, I wondered if we were going to float away, the rain was coming down so hard and heavy), while others never saw a drop of it. It’s a pity the rain didn’t go where it was needed most. The amount of rain we got down at work, surely would have put that big fire out up at Cave Creek.. or at least slowed it waay down.
That is the downside to getting all the rain we did earlier in the spring… Everything started growing like mad after the unseasonable amount of rain we got. And then once summer arrived and started drying everything out, well, it just created the perfect fuel for fire, and plenty of it, too.
Hopefully these fires won’t last long. I get headaches smelling all that smoke. Bleh.
first swim of the season…
Last night after I got home from work, Josh and I decided to go swimming. It’s been overly hot here recently, and the pool felt nice.
However, the enjoyment lasted only mere minutes, as shortly after I got into the pool, I was stung by a bee.
Now, I get off work at 10pm on Saturdays. I get home by around 11pm. We got in the pool at maybe around 11:30pm.
A bee? In the middle of the night?? Just my dumb luck. I didn’t have an allergic reaction to it, although it still hurts around the area where I was stung, and from what Josh has read, it may hurt for a few days.
Stupid bee. 😠
looking for trouble…
Last night on the way home, I was passing by a small park. There were a couple of cars in front of me, and I suddenly saw something fly across the road in front of me and behind the car ahead of me, and hit and splatter all over the street. It flew so fast I wasn’t sure what it was. “What the hell?” I thought to myself. Out of the corner of my eye, I saw a couple of kids duck into the bushes behind a brick wall that surrounds a giant water tank sitting on the park’s property.
I put two and two together, and realized what the flying-splat thing was… a water balloon.
Keep in mind, this was at nearly midnight. The park is closed and dark (perfect cover for troublemakers).
For a moment I almost expected my own car to get hit (I think they were aiming for the cars but their timing was awful, as they didn’t hit any of us), but it didn’t. As I passed the park I decided to call the police (non-emergency line).
I hope the little shits got busted. Most likely they took off not long after that and the cop would have found an empty park… But I can always dream, right?
it’s Friday, for crying out loud.. go have a beer!!
What’s with the busy Friday nights here? Why don’t you* people go out and have a beer and just ignore your stupid business data circuits for the weekend for pete’s sake!
This just isn’t right. 😠
* = refers to our customers, of course, not you, dear readers!
packing on the mileage…
It’s been just over three weeks since I got the new Saturn, and she already has almost 2000 miles on her. No, wait. She DOES have over 2000 miles on her already. I think I hit that mark mid-way to work today.
I guess that’s what happens when one has to drive about 90 miles round-trip a day to get to and from work. I guess it’s a good thing I only work four days a week! And that she gets good gas mileage! (got about 34/mpg last fill up)
