little kitty lost..

Monday, January 05, 2004
There is a young adult cat hanging around our neighborhood. He first appeared in our back yard, at around 2AM about two nights ago, yowling like mad. We went outside to investigate, and was greeted quickly by a very friendly kitty. He's probably not even one year old.

We contemplated putting him in our cats' cage (which they stayed in while they were little kittens until we knew they were completely litter trained) for the night in our garage.. We quickly changed our minds when he would not stop meowing, and we could hear it through the house in our bedroom.

So, we let him loose, hoping he'd be ok for the night.

The next morning, our neighbors rang our bell, cat in arms. They were going door to door trying to find his owner, as he had found his way into their garage during the night. They already have a cat, as do we, so neither of us could house him. I found that they put up posters on the mailboxes with his picture in hopes someone would claim him.

So far, no one has, that we are aware of. He showed up at our house again last night, again in the back yard. Our bedroom light was on, so that is where he concentrated his efforts to get our attention. When he climbed onto our window screen, I went out side to get him to the front yard.

I stood in the driveway for a few minutes, contemplating what to do. We live at the edge of our housing development, and to the west of us is nothing but desert. We regularly hear coyotes at night.

I figured he managed to make it through the last few nights ok, but I wanted to help a little, so I closed the garage with about five inches of space at the bottom, so he could come and go as he pleased. The cage was still there from the other night, so I separated it from its base, so he could get to the blankets & litter box that we had put in there the other night.

Today, when Josh was heading out the door to leave for work, lost kitty sprinted inside. I quickly picked him up before our cats discovered he was in the house, and stepped out into the garage. I held him while Josh backed out so he wouldn't get squished, and then closed the garage to leave the 5" space again, set the kitty down and went back inside. He meowed pitifully for a few more minutes, then went on his way.

I don't know how long we should wait before we should take him to a shelter, in case his owners see one of the signs our neighbors put up and come to claim him... I want to try to take him to a no-kill shelter if I can, but the first one I called has a two to three week waiting list for found animals to be accepted to await adoption. I can only imagine what kind of waiting lists others in the Valley have.

If you live in Phoenix and you want to give this guy a home, contact me. I'd take him in if we didn't already have two cats (who were extremely unhappy at this fellow's presence in the backyard). He seems healthy, and he is not de-clawed. I think he may be neutered but I'm not positive. Since we've not let him into the house (at least not intentionally), we don't know of any bad habits he may have, other than his tendency to climb your leg if you don't pay enough attention to him (fortunately I was wearing jeans).

I think I may wait a week and if he's still hanging around, I'll turn him over to a shelter. He's really very sweet but I don't think I'm prepared to try introducing a new cat into the family.

Oh, and before I forget, the border is flush against the margins, too.

&*@&#$%@#!  I mean, Happy New Year!

My redesign is going.... well, not so well.
I'm sitting here at work (a long, 12 hour day), cursing to myself while I try to make HTML my bitch and bow to my commands... I started out trying the layout with tables, but I'm having a feeling it's not gonna work that way.

To give you a general idea of the layout... There will be a border all around the page, a title image (would prefer it be hanging to the left of center, kind of like my current one), image buttons for the side links (about, archives, etc., on either the right or left, the top button starting aligned left, then the following buttons alternating aligned right and left), and a semi-large image of a drawing I did just for the site, at the lower right of the page.

Anyone an HTML/CSS/PHP guru that wants to help a frustrated gal out? Tables don't seem to be bending to my will.. it looks OK, but I haven't even gotten the link buttons set up yet, or the drawing and it already looks like if it stretches too much the background images will start to repeat in the wrong way. 😕

I'm thinking about frames, but I've never worked with those before.. CSS seems a reasonable solution, but I know only the very basics of it and would probably end up beating my head against my monitor trying to figure it out...

I'll keep doing what I can for the time being... If anyone is willing to assist and wants to get ahold of me quicker than through comments or e-mail, my AIM ID is n t g b l x (without the spaces).

Thanks!

that font..

Tuesday, December 30, 2003
I'm not even sure when or where I got it, but I found out it isn't free.. So I guess I'll be looking for another font for my redesign unless I want to dish out $21 to buy the font. Feh. I know people work hard to make these fonts and all, but I prefer free stuff... Especially when spending money on something as frivolous as a font when money is a little tight isn't the best of ideas..

So it appears, now that I know that it is not a freeware font, that I may be also redesigning that image for the other site as well. It's not a commercial site, but I'd still prefer not to get nailed at some point for using it without having paid for it.

font search

I need some assistance... I have an idea in redesigning my blog here, and I want to use a specific font, but damned if I can remember the name of the stupid thing.. I used it before, but I don't think it's installed currently.. and the file I used to create this graphic does not have the unadulterated font in any of the layers:

Any help would be appreciated... I'll probably be spending a couple of hours today trying to search for it.

Thanks!

Move along, nothing to see

I think I should check MT's activity log a little more often.

Someone at the DOJ was being a tad bit naughty:

2003.11.19 17:31:46 *.*.*.* Search: query for 'sex'
2003.11.19 17:33:48 *.*.*.* Search: query for 'masturbate'
2003.11.19 17:33:54 *.*.*.* Search: query for 'clit'
2003.11.19 17:33:59 *.*.*.* Search: query for 'dildo'

I took out their IP, of course, in case it's anyone who visits here with any regularity.. but it did come back as belonging to the US DOJ.

The things that make you go "hmmmmm...."

ho-hum

Taking a brief break from house cleaning. Gonna have Josh's dad & possibly his brother over in the morning, and the house is a mess.

And I still have Christmas Eve festivities to attend this evening with Josh's mom, step-dad, brother, and sister-in-law.

Which reminds me... I still have a couple gifts to wrap, too.

I knew I should have dragged my sorry butt out of bed earlier this morning... But, I just love sleeping more than cleaning!

Back to work I suppose. Bleh.

pondering…

Just a question for anyone who reads and cares to respond...
How many of you had to have a degree (or some form of certification) in order to get the job you currently hold?

My job doesn't require a degree or certification, although they favor applicants who have them.

Just curious.

A task for Wednesday

Monday, December 22, 2003
I think I'll save upgrading MT for Wednesday morning... or Thursday night, after the family festivities...

they lace that with crack, you know

Thursday, December 18, 2003
I started the Atkins "diet" in September. I followed it religiously for a little while, then I got to the point where I figure I'd just go easy on the carb intake but not totally forbid myself from eating things that tend to be carb heavy... If I did have something like that (for instance, three or four hard shell tacos, which really isn't TOO heavy on the carbs, it's actually very modest), I'd cut back on carbs the rest of the day or the next day.

I guess it's my own bastardized version of Atkins. It's working OK. Still losing weight, albeit very slowly. Now and then I teeter-totter with a couple pounds, but it's still on a downhill run. For instance, yesterday I was down 19.5 lbs from when I began, but this morning I was at 17.5 lbs from when I began. (I weigh myself every morning after I wake up but after I use the facilities)

One of the things that probably doesn't help this teeter-tottering is when I eat a taco salad. Including the crunchy deep-fried flour tortilla shell. It's hard to resist, though, eating that shell. I take a nibble and tell myself, "just a little bite". Then a little bite turns into the entire shell, except the mushy ick that is the bottom part of the bowl.

I guess it's kind of like how some people are with french fries, or those little cookies that come in the big plastic "economy size" packages that usually are bought for picnics or barbeques. The cookies that are about the size of a quarter and once you eat one you find yourself trotting back to the bowl to grab a handful more, 'cause, you know, they're laced with crack! Why else can you not stop at just one?
