at home today

Wednesday, June 04, 2008

Neither of us are feeling too well today.  Our lower intestines are, um, not happy, so powder room visits are looking to be a frequent thing today.  We opted to stay home from work.

gallery

Hmm.  I just realized that my gallery is defunct.  Guess I should remove that link until I get something in there again.  It went bye-bye when I had to delete everything when my site got hacked and I just never got around to uploading stuff again.  Heck I don’t even remember which pictures were there.  I *may* have the directory backed up somewhere…. off to go look.

Cleaning up

I still haven’t moved directories yet, but I’m slowly cleaning up around here.  I just got done taking out dead links and updating other links in my blogroll.  I almost couldn’t remember my damn login info for blogrolling, let alone my password.

Yeah, it’s been a while!

Is this thing on?

Tuesday, June 03, 2008

*sniff sniff*

I don’t smell any burning files… so it seems the upgrade I just did here went OK…

Now on to moving directories…

roller skates on the highway

Saturday, July 22, 2006

I saw one of these on the way home last night:

I felt like I could squish it under the tire of the Tahoe I was driving.

Hey, don’t criticize me… It was a $10 a day rental.  I’m not going to pass up the opportunity to drive a brand-spanking new ‘07 Tahoe with only NINE miles on its engine!!  It had about 190 miles on it when I was done with it.  :cheese:  And cost as much to fill it as it does our VUE… Of course, it was only about 10.5 gallons I had to put in…. there was still about 15 gallons left in the tank.  But you know, avoiding paying $4.00 a gallon for not filling it before returning it was the goal.

It’s a nice ride, but at about 18mpg, unless we worked closer to home, we’d be killing ourselves just trying to keep the tank filled in the thing.  And here I thought the 23mpg VUE was bad, eesh.

The reason for the rental is another story.  Trouble with the VUE again.

the plague has arrived

Saturday, July 15, 2006

Ok, not really The Plague, but it may as well be.

I’m talking about mosquitos.  They’ve been plaguing the building at work.  Yuck.

I’ve killed several over the last couple of weeks, and building management claims they’re getting some exterminators out to take care of it.

In the meantime, we were asked to do a few things to help eliminate them.  You know, the usual, don’t leave standing water around, don’t hold the exterior doors open, the usual stuff.

But then they added this:

Remove any live plants from your work area.

Um.  Wha?

Sorry, but I’ve never known live plants to be the culprit when it comes to attracting mosquitos.

Ahem.  People attract mosquitos, dummies!  They could give a shit about plants!!  Except male mosquitos, but those don’t bite!!  These things dive-bombing our heads?  Those are females, and they only drink blood.  Humans = food to them.  NOT plants!

So by that logic, we should be removing ourselves from the office.  No food source? No mosquitos!

Hmm. I don’t think that will go over well, though.

one last thing..

Saturday, July 08, 2006

Josh’s blog may not work at this time, I still haven’t recreated the directory for his yet.  But I think he was even less apt to post than I was, so I’ll leave it up to him if he wants me to put it back.  😊

And I think the dragon skin is broken, too.  I’ll eventually get it fixed.

no cookie for you!

The site was gone for a few days, and subsequently moved, too.  I set up a 301 redirect, so if it is working properly, you should still get here when you go to my old URL (but please update your bookmarks, thanks!).

I had to dump my whole subdomain folder and start over from scratch, because some nitwit hacked into my folders and placed some code to phish for our webserver account’s passwords.  Assholes.  Then I had to create a new directory structure so that whatever software the douchebags were using to hack in wouldn’t be able to find their way back to the same files.  I debated whether to put the blog directory back where it was, but I figured if I didn’t, any of the few readers I may have left (all two of you… no? one reader?  meh.) wouldn’t be able to find my site.  So all that’s in that directory now is the redirect.

I’ve also been trying to clamp down on the referrer spam and set up htaccess blocks.  Stupid spammers.  Every new one I find will be added to that list, and never shall they grace us with their presence any further… Bastiges!

Oh, and if you happen to be browsing back through my archives, and find a bunch of stuff that is broken (mostly images), that is because those were all linked to my old MT blog directory, and that one went bye-bye forever (as I suspect that may have been where the dumbshits gained access, after having a tech-savvy person look at the hacker’s code).  Maybe someday I’ll correct the pics, but I doubt it.  That was a lot of images, and I’d have to correct all the links to them.  No thanks!  More work than I’m willing to put up with at this point,  this invasion wore my patience to the breaking point.  Rebuilding the blog with minimal stuff in the directory was about all I had the motivation to complete.  Sorry.

I’m kind of mad though, because MT had a handy image uploading schema that made really nice and quick pop-up URL’s.  I never could get EE’s to work so I always used MT’s.  Oh well.  I guess no more pop-ups unless I can get it to work in EE.  That is for another day.

Oh, and no more trackbacks, either.  They were rarely used, and it’s one less thing that I’d need to chase down spammers on, if it started to be abused.

working for the weekend…

Friday, April 14, 2006

I’ve been back at work for three weeks now.

Hating every minute of it.  Every. Minute.

Not so much the work itself, it’s still the same ol’ crap,  but the shift I’m on…  In order to accomodate childcare (graciously volunteered by Gram TJ - we’re ever so grateful!!), I need to work 6a-3p and J works 3p-12a, M-F.

Needless to say, it’s a very rough adjustment.  We only see each other in passing during the week, when he comes in and I’m walking out the door, and for a few minutes on the two days that our daughter needs to make the trip to work with him when Gram is unavailable.  We have our weekends together, but they seem so damn short.  That comes from having worked a four-day work week for so long.  We were spoiled with three day weekends… We want them back!!

There are pros and cons to trying to go back on the four-day work week on swing shift.  We’d work opposite shifts to accomodate the childcare, since it would be on the overlapping Wednesdays and because we would be working late, would likely need to be an overnight thing (unless Gram wants me coming by at 10pm on the days she watches Z…), so we wouldn’t have weekends together anymore.  We would, however, be on the same sleep schedule again, so that could partially make up for the lack of same-weekends..

Plus, we could possibly put the squirt to bed an hour later (she goes to bed at 10p right now) on the nights we watch her, it will make for not-quite-so-early mornings.. Although we are infinitely grateful that she is sleeping 7-9 hours a night!  (Everyone at work seems to be amazed by that.. I guess for most of the ppl here who have kids, the sleeping through the night thing didn’t start happening until later on.. HAHA!  Hail the power of the swaddle!)

Probably the biggest con of this will be that J is out of personal time already this year, and to avoid going 40 hrs into the red for next year (which is what happened this year), in his current department, his manager allowed him to trade overtime for time off.  Since their department isn’t ever going back to 4-day work weeks, J would have to come back to my department, and the manager of this department tends to be weird about those kinds of arrangements.  Although, strangely enough, I am leaving 2 hours early today and since he knew I worked through most of my lunches this week (going out long enough to grab food, come back and eat it while working, except one day where I wasn’t able to get away to get food at all), he OK’d me not using personal time for the two hours I won’t be here for today, and instead using the hours worked thru lunch to cover them…

Maybe he’s beginning to see he needs to start being flexible to keep everyone from looking for another job?  There are already two ppl leaving in less than two weeks, and a third left last week… We’re severly understaffed and it was so busy this week and last that the rest of us started grumbling about how we’re hurting for bodies and it’s enough to make us start looking elsewhere for work… I guess the mumblings got back to management and they’re starting to realize they can’t continue to be completely inflexible with us, else we’ll start leaving in droves.

Anyway, where was I?

Oh yeah, I hate this shift.  But, I’m leaving early today.  Yay!  More time to spend with my sweet girl!  She’s growing up so fast…
