politics, shmolitics…

Wednesday, September 01, 2004

I’m not really into politics much.  It probably has a lot to do with how a political discussion can become extremely heated, and how I am a terrible debator so I’d probably lose the discussion.  Therefore I stay out of them if it can be helped.

But anyhow, at job#2 this week, since the RNC has been going on, it was brought up in discussion by the ladies there, co-workers included.

The full-time gal was off both Monday & Tuesday, so I don’t know which party she favors… but the owner, the manager, and pretty much all of the customers, just love ol’ Dubya.  Just love him to death.  It really kind of churned my stomach.  I could picture them wanting to kiss his feet.

And they bashed Kerry, of course, being Dubya lovers.

I pretty much kept my mouth shut, didn’t nod or shake my head or anything.  I pretended I didn’t exist.  At job#1 I’d probably pipe in on the discussion, but at job#2, still being the newbie, and with how they just seemed to fawn over Dubya like he was the best thing since sliced bread, I kept quiet.  Besides, I felt if I were to speak up, it would have been like throwing a raw steak out into the middle of a pack of starving wolves.

And while Mac’s assessment that it seems a majority of Dubya lovers tend to live in rural areas is probably at least partially true, there are also a good number of his fanatical followers that live in the cities.  The people at the LYS I work at are proof of that.  And not a single one of them is younger than 55 years old, so, at the risk of making a generalization, it seems like a large number of Dubya’s fans are also of the older generation(s).  That’s just an observation I made as I sat taping needlepoint canvases while the ladies in the shop discussed Dubya.

Another observation I made while at work, specifically on Tuesday… the full moon this Sunday/Monday seemed to make the manager quite cranky.  I’ll have to keep that in mind next month.. must be on my toes ‘round full moon time.  It was like walking on eggshells.  Eesh.
