I think my head is starting to spin.. and no, not in the evil, possessed "Exorcist" kind of way.. but just because of all that needs to be done in the short amount of time before Feb. 29th!
I'm shopping around for a reverend/minister to perform the wedding ceremony. So far the price appears to be $150 for nearly everyone that I've called (have spoken to five so far, left messages for two, and will have to try three others later who didn't have voice mail).
The cheapest so far is $75 for a fellow in Sun City, for just the ceremony. He said modifying the vows is permitted as long as it isn't sacrilegious. I didn't ask him what his definition of sacrilegious is (although I should have), but I got the impression he leans more to the religious side of wedding ceremonies when he said that. So, I'm not sure about him. I would rather not have someone who may be the slightest bit offended if I decide to ask to have references to "God" removed from the vows (if they are there) or wanted to choose a non-religious script.
Hmm.... decisions, decisions.
At this point, even without having heard back from the two I left messages for, I am debating between a female minister who called me back within minutes of having left a message for her husband (they both are ministers), their fee is $150 which includes rehearsal & meetings.. she is going to e-mail me a basic script for us to read over, with a few extra "optional" things (unity candle, etc); or a gentleman whose fee is $150 for just the ceremony, and while meetings are extra, communication can be done via e-mail to decide upon the details of the vows script. He even has a small website set up with some example scripts available for my perusal, and said that even if we decided not to choose him, we could still feel free to use any of the scripts he has on his site.
There are also two other ladies who I spoke to yesterday who I can chose from (or if not one of the ladies, her husband... another husband/wife minister team), one whose fee is $150 and if I recall correctly, included a meeting & rehearsal, and the other whose fee was $200, but she would discount if we didn't do any rehearsal or meetings. I didn't get the exact discount at the time but I can always check with her again.
That's all, folks...
