my duty is done…
After 1 hr & 20 minutes, my vote is cast.
Why don’t all states have ballots like AZ? All we do is take a black marker and draw a line to make an arrow whole (like connect-the-dots) for the person you’re voting for. Simple, nothing to hang off the page. Eh.
Off to play some more World of Warcraft. 😊
miscellaneous notes to self…
While I wait for my copy of World of Warcraft closed-stress-beta to install…
...299 stitches on a size 15 needle does NOT equal six feet. More like ten feet.
...banana bread is best when made with overripe bananas. Stupid recipe just said ripe bananas. I’ve made banana bread before, like over 10 years ago… So I had a feeling overripe bananas were in order, but I only had one and it didn’t equal the cup I needed, so I put in the fridge (after being peeled & mashed) so I could try to “age” another banana. But the next day after checking the nanner in the fridge, it was already browning & oozing so I threw it away and just used “ripe” bananas thinking since the recipe called for just “ripe” bananas it would be ok…
Well, it’s still banana bread, but not as dark and flavorful as it would have been if I’d used overripe bananas. So I get to let a couple more sit for a week and try again next Monday or Tuesday.
Damn, isn’t that installation done yet?? A little over half-way. It sure is taking its sweet time!
Let’s see, what else…
...gotta go out and vote today. Our polling place is in a retired folks community. In their yacht club conference room. I do believe this is the same place that a man freaked out and shot two of the board members a few years ago. April 2000, in fact. It may not be the same room, but it’s definitely the same place. Was looking for articles on it, the ones I found with a quick search only state one person died, but actually two died. The second died a day or two or more after she was admitted to the hospital. The shooter got the death sentence for the crime. Heck, I even found a website that lists death-row inmates in AZ. He’s the second one on the page. HOAs can be evil, but he really just took things too far.
Oh look, the install is almost done! Yay!! Just a few minutes more I think.
super charged…
Does anyone else get super-statically-charged?
Everywhere I go, the moment I touch something metal, ZAP!
I spend 45-50 minutes in the car going to work, climb out and gather my things (knitting bag, purse), reach for the door to close it, and ZAP!!
Yeah, I’m one of those people who would probably go up in a ball of flame while pumping gas if I didn’t ground myself beforehand.
It’s also the reason why I no longer have anything to do with hardware upgrades on my computers. I think I’ve fried at least three sound cards, and one of them I didn’t even open the case! It was when we moved from our last apartment to our house, I carried my computer from the apt to the truck, then from the truck to the house. Hooked up the computer, and lo and behold, no sound. Yeah, I’m talented like that.
But anyway… anyone else have issues with static electricity?
it’s gone downhill…
Every time I visit Class*mates.com, there is less and less that’s available to non-Gold members. It’s pretty sad, really.
Back when I first signed up, a non-paying member could post on the message boards, see the link to a class*mate’s website if they posted it, see their photo if they posted it, and I think even send a message via class*mates to a friend if they were registered at the site.
Now, that’s all gone, you have to fork out what, almost $40 a year to be able to do all of that? Or $60 for two years. Still pretty lame. I know the place has to make a profit somehow, but c’mon. All we get now is the ability to see whether an old friend is registered, and a brief teaser about a few of them:
- Describe your political views: It depends on the issue
- Kind of pet(s) you have: Fish
- Country you live in today: UNITED STATES
- Highest Education Level: Some college
- How you stay in touch with school friends: Other
Big whoop!
edited to add: btw, that wasn’t from my profile, but a random classmate I picked for an example
a visit from the sick-bug…
Not me, yet, anyway.. but poor Josh just headed back home after dropping me off at work this morning. He hadn’t planned on turning around and going home, as he had been ok upon waking, but on the way in he started feeling ill. Considering he was sweating in a car that was probably 65F degrees, yeah, he’s definitely coming down with something. :-(
So, he’s on his way home now, hopefully he’ll get there OK and in one piece. He’ll be reporting in later to let me know what his temperature is.
I’m guessing it may be the flu, since he usually doesn’t get the sweats & shivers with a cold… We’ve never been the type to get flu shots anyway, so the shot shortage that’s going on didn’t affect us, technically.
I’m just hoping whatever he has will pass me by like usual. I’m already two sick/vacation days in the hole into next year, I really don’t need to be having to take any more… as it is, we think this little surprise sickness is going to end up burning a couple of his sick days from next year, too.
Yes, only October and we have absolutely no PTO days left. For him, it’s because he started out with about 3/4th of the normal number of PTO days since he only started working in March. He’s used some here & there and then we both have 40 hours reserved for our December vacation. For me, in addition to the vacation in December, I also used two weeks of my PTO for my wedding & the honeymoon, in addition to misc sick & personal days. I think I may have also started a day or two short from borrowing into this year in 2003…
Five weeks of vacation/sick time seems to disappear faster than you’d think.
aaaaand rest.
That was practically back-breaking…
Spraying the weeds in the yard is not fun. But hopefully the white-death that is all-vegetation-killer will nip those things in the bud (ha-ha).
Now to go veg in front of the t.v. until it’s time to go get dinner. Maybe I’ll see if I can try out the Spryo game we picked up yesterday if Josh isn’t using the t.v. for GTA: San Andreas… If he is, then I guess I’ll do some more knitting on his afghan. It’s nearly done! yay!
playing catch up…
I have started to slack with my posts here, but I think that has a lot to do with the fact that only one of us can be remote-desktop’d to home, and I try to refrain from posting very often while at work if I can’t RDP.
Plus, with our current schedule, waking up at 4:10a and leaving by 5a to head to work, then finally leaving work at 4p and getting home by 5pm-ish, leaves very little time to eat, catch up on some shows on TiVo, and then off to bed by around 8:30-9p… I spend maybe 5 minutes on my Powerbook skimming email (either before leaving in the morning, or just before bed at night), just so it doesn’t pile up.
So, there really isn’t much time for anything like blogging. Unless I do it from work (like today).
Work was busy this week. A little more than usual, it seemed. It actually made me really glad we got moved to the 2nd half of the week, so we only have to endure 3 days of “normal business hours” instead of five.
I’m working on three knitting projects right now. One, which is nearly complete, is a huge afghan the husband requested, in purples & blues. It’s about 6ft wide, and will be about 6ft long when it’s done. And dayam, that thing weighs a ton! Oh, made of miscellaneous yarns, all acrylic (and some leftover chenille on one section).
The second is a baby afghan for my sister-in-law’s baby, due in Feb. Only just starting it, maybe have about six inches done. Also acrylic yarns, but “quality” acrylics from the LYS I work(ed*) at. In lilac, yellow, & a multi-color pink/lilac/yellow (three strands held together).
The third is another baby sweater. I decided instead of giving the mint green one I made earlier this summer to the SIL for her baby, that I’ll give that one to my sister instead (she had a little girl in july), and make a new one in white & pink for the SIL’s baby. It’s a top-down raglan, maybe 1/4 done. Also quality acrylic from the LYS.
I also have a few UFO’s sitting in wait…
- - a men’s sweater, originally intended for a brother, but I think I’ll give it to my dad when it’s done.. in red heart acrylic (yuck)
- - a cardigan for myself, in Lion Brand Homespun. It’s in moss stitch, which I got really bored with really fast, so this one may sit for a while before I pick it up again. Got about 1/6th of the back panel done, and that’s it.
- - socks for myself… Lion Brand Magic Stripes (?), purple/white/gray… working from toe-up, but haven’t gotten to the heel on the first sock yet.
I think that’s all the UFOs.. And I have a project in mind that I’ll work on after I finish Josh’s afghan, (mainly because I need the size 15 needles the afghan is currently using), which should knit up pretty quickly as it will only require two skeins of boucle.. a shawl that I can wear when I go to restaraunts that leave their freezing cold A/C on that always seems to blow straight onto me while we’re dining…
That’s about it for the knitting.
I decided to join Blog Explosion (yeah, I know everyone else jumped on that band wagon like, last week or something… so I’m slow) to see what kind of traffic it can really give me. I just signed up today, so my blog is in the “waiting for approval” status at this point. If you visit via BE, please be sure to drop a comment to say hi so I know it’s working for me. 😉
Well, I guess I should get back to work. Oh joy.

a gubernatorial pardon…
for the termites, that is. But it only lasts one week!
Last night, we found out, was only to sign the paperwork for the warranty and them set up the appointment for the deaths of the termites… Fortunately, we were able to get an appointment for next Thursday morning, which is better than what the guy was thinking it would be, and that was a two to three week wait. I think the reason he may have pushed for an earlier appointment is because of how fast those buggers are making tunnels on our wall. Seemingly overnight, nay, literally overnight, one of the tunnels doubled in size. From about 1” long, to two inches… and I think it’s still growing. Plus, the fact that there was only one when he came out to inspect on the 24th, and there are now two of them.
I should take a picture of the tunnels when I get home tonight, if nothing but to track their progress in the week we have to wait until the treatment gets done, and then from there to see how long it takes for them to die.
it’s hump day…
And by that, I do mean Wednesday. Get your minds out of the gutter. :-p
It used to be, Wednesday was the start of my work week, for the longest time. One quarter, it was one of my days off. Now, it’s officially the middle of my work week, and I’m kind of sad about it. I can’t say, “yep, one more day and it’s my weekend!” anymore… ‘cause there’s still two days left. :long:
*sigh* And I have at least 11 weeks of this shift left. Bleh.
