snooze-a-roo…

Thursday, January 13, 2005

I dislike having to listen to a rather boring conference call when I’m already fighting to stay awake.
Bleh.

With the exception of finishing up some weaving in-of-the-ends on the two sweaters I made for my SIL’s baby (due at the beginning of February) and attaching the buttons, my knitting frenzy has died down somewhat.  I’ve started a sock, but I want to try to restrict my knitting to the commute home (since there is no daylight at 5am yet, I can only knit on the way home), and move on to other things at home.

I’m in the process of cleaning up my office (finally!).  We went to IKEA on Monday and got a storage shelving unit so I could move some boxes that were in my closet (and on the floor of my office) out to the garage and be able to keep most of the stuff off the floor.  We also picked up a couple of nightstands.  I wanted the solid pine design, but apparently so did everyone else, because they were out of stock.  So we got a reddish-toned set instead.  Very easy to put together.  And the store?  Daayam! That place is HUGE!

Anyway, I can see most of my floor now.  I still have other things to get put away & organized… and then I want to start dedicating more time to sculpting again.  I’ve been visiting a couple of message boards where some pretty kick-ass sculptors post, and well, it’s started to inspire me.  Especially upon learning some tips that will help make my sculpts stronger & sturdier, particularly the wings on my dragons.

I plan on starting with the dragon I was making for Josh, which means I get to pick off all the clay and re-do the armature.  But that’s ok, I wasn’t too happy with its head, and the armature was weak anyway.  I’m actually anxious to get started, but I have to wait for some stronger armature wire that I ordered, as well as wire mesh*, and I still need to order some epoxy mix (actually it’s Apoxy Sculpt, by Aves) to strengthen the joints on the armatures…

* the wire mesh is, what I have discovered, the secret to strong wing membranes.

But the clean room comes first, I am holding myself to that.

that’s nice, but I’m still not upgrading…

Friday, January 07, 2005

So late last night I got an email from Classmates in response to the message I had sent them about their system not working.  They gave me one free week of Gold Membership to make up for it, saying they are aware of the issues their non-paying members are having, and apologize for the inconvenience.

So I just spend a few minutes looking up some of my friends and piped off about six e-mails.  May as well take advantage of the freebie while I can, eh?

And thanks to TJ, who sent an email on my behalf to the friend I couldn’t reply to, since she has a Gold Membership… My friend wrote back last night, and I’m going to reply to her shortly. 😊

we have coffee!

Monday, January 03, 2005

My replacement Home Cafe coffee maker came today.

This one doesn’t leak.  Yay!

The coffee is kind of strong, but not overpowering, and nothing that a little cream & sugar can’t tame a little.

It was pretty fast coming back, too.  I sent the cord out what, Tuesday I think? Via first class mail.  They shipped the coffee maker via Fed Ex.  So I am pretty pleased with their service so far.  I’ve never had to return anything in that manner before, but it worked out well.

Now I can make individual cups of coffee and not have to worry about wasting half a pot anymore.  Yay!

2005, coming right up!

Friday, December 31, 2004

2005 so far, is looking to be very expensive for us.

*whimper*
The bank account is going to royally hate us this coming year.

The only plus will be if/when we can finally refinance our 1st & 2nd mortgages in February, hopefully getting us back about $400-$500 a month.

I think the cars are scheming against us, knowing we may be coming into this extra money.  Curses!

Beaten wife turns on cop husband

Thursday, December 30, 2004

Cop wife beater.

Stepping on her breast when she had just had out-patient surgery to remove a lump on the same breast?  What an asshole!  And putting his service revolver in her mouth, three times.

I’m glad she came to her senses, he got what he deserved.  I am just curious how she got ahold of his gun (assuming she used the same gun he had previously put in her mouth).

Regardless, I’m glad the circumstances were just right and she was finally able to get away from him.

putt… putt… *sputter* putt…

*yawn*

Someone forgot to switch my engine on this morning.  So… sleepy… Fighting the urge to nod off at my desk…..

I hate having to wake up at 4am.
So glad that tomorrow, even though I’m working a 12 hour shift, that I get to wake up at 8am.  FOUR hours of extra sleep! (if I go to bed at the same time as last night, of course, which I probably won’t).  But then it’s a 12 hour shift.  I’ll get home at about 11, try to stay awake for midnight (it is New Year’s Eve, after all), and then collapse in bed to wake up again at 8 for another 12 hour shift on Saturday.

Yeah, two of them in a row.  Stupid skeleton crew shifts on holidays.  Puh.  😠

Worse yet… Instead of getting a swing shift on the next rotation like we were hoping for, we’re stuck on this stupid shift, again, for another three months.  That does not make me happy at all.

through the thick of it…

We got quite a bit of rain yesterday.  Some areas of Arizona got up to 5” of rain, which is a lot considering our state is suffering a 9 yr drought and as a result the ground is often too hard to absorb the water.  Some of the news footage from Sedona, whose river was nearly overflowing, was pretty amazing.

But anyway… The storm has passed and this morning I had to drive through some fog.  Some wispy, thin stuff, and then some as thick as, yes, pea soup.

Ok, so visibility wasn’t so bad that I couldn’t see the car in front of me (around 80-100 ft I think?), but it was still pretty thick fog for a few miles.  We experience similar visibility issues when we get dust storms out here, but we don’t get fog nearly as often as we can get dust storms during monsoon, so it was just a little unusual to be driving through it.  Fortunately, the few miles that traffic was swallowed up by the low clouds resulted in no accidents, at least that I know of.  Not that there was much traffic at 5:30 to begin with.  😊

*poof*

Wednesday, December 22, 2004

Yeah, so my webserver had some issues.
About twenty hours of issues.  I guess something went funky with their Apache install (I guess they were updating something), and it fubar’d everything… then they claimed it was fixed, but we still couldn’t reach our domains, plus mine, which is multi-hosted, wasn’t pointing to the subdomain anymore… so they got that fixed.  Then it was still acting as if our sites didn’t exist.

But now it seems we’re back.  Whee!

oh, my head…

Wednesday, December 15, 2004

We’re back home.
Actually, we got home around 12:30-1pm, after picking up lunch at Del Taco.

Some mysterious elf cleaned our living room & kitchen (and front bathroom, and vacuumed!) while we were away.

I really dislike flying.  I usually end up with a headache later in the day after the flight.  The noise (even with my noise reducing headphones) and the cabin pressure are just too much I guess.  But to cut travel time to mere hours (whereas driving would take well over a day or two), I am willing to make the sacrifice.

Now it’s off to bed with hopes that the advil will kick in and get rid of this headache. 😕

Will probably post a couple of pictures later, maybe tomorrow.

in a holi-daze…

Wednesday, December 01, 2004

Today is kicking my ass.  There are just too many tickets out to the LEC today.  Bah!
Please, make it stop!!

Anyway…

Josh gave a quick update in his blog.  Although he left out the trip up to my parents’ place in Prescott.

I got to see my sister’s daughter for the first time since she was born in July.  She’s a real cutie.  I have pictures, but there at home on the camera, so I’ll have to post them later.

I think the hats went over well with the kids.  They got to wear them outside while we were there when they went out to ride their bikes.  Because it was 37F degrees outside.  During broad daylight.  Brrr!!

I didn’t have a hat.  Standing outside watching the kids ride their bikes in the chilly air, made me suddenly want to make myself a hat.  Granted I’d probably use it only when we went up to visit, but I think I will make myself one if even just for that.

The laugh of the day was courtesy of my nephew.  The first time he rode down the hill on his bike, he lost control and wiped out.  We laughed (we were up the hill & out of earshot of my nephew), and then since the kid was crying, I jogged down to help him up, brush him off and tell him he was all right (he only had a scratch on his hand).  He stopped crying shortly thereafter.  Aside from the scratch, I think it was mostly his pride that was hurt.  Besides, he’s four years old, so he’s made of rubber, you know.

As Josh mentioned, we’re gearing up for our vacation to Florida.  I can hardly wait.  Time off from work will be enjoyed by all.

And then it will be time to start the Christmas shopping.

Why yes, I am a procrastinator.  Why do you ask?  😝
