sneeze & sniffle…

Monday, December 20, 2004

Bleh.
My sore throat from Saturday is gone.  Yesterday I started to feel better.

Then today I started to get sneezy & stuffy.

Dammit I hope this is gone before Friday.

At least most of my Christmas shopping is done.  I still have to brave Wally world later tonight to get a few more things for my side of the family.  But I will be doing that probably at around 11:00pm or so, since they’re open 24 hrs.  Hopefully there will be maybe half as many ppl shopping at that time of night than when I passed by there at three.  The parking lot looked pretty full then.

I still haven’t done any decorating yet.  Mainly ‘cuz the tree we have is a nine footer that I didn’t particularly care for putting together or taking apart last year (scratched the hell out of my arms), and I’ve been mulling over the idea of buying a cheap 6’ tree, maybe pre-lit.  I think I saw one at Walgreens for about $40 but it was kinda wimpy.  Meh.  Maybe I’ll just pull out one of my little 24” trees instead.  It’s already decorated. Heh.

I’m not sure I want to bother with the lights on the house this year, either.  I dislike having to climb to the very top of the 8’ ladder to hang the lights over the garage.  Most of the houses on our street are decorated, but there are still a couple that aren’t, so if I decide not to put up the lights, at least I won’t be the only one.

Anyway.. I guess I’ll go dig through my wrapping paper and get a few gifts wrapped up so at least those are done.  This cold is doing little for my holiday spirit.  Bleh.

jury summons magnet…

Saturday, December 18, 2004

I sure am, I tell you.

I got one in the mail yesterday, slated for Feb. 1st.  Oh joy.

I had one earlier this year (in March I think?), but my group got cancelled. I didn’t have to go.

Somehow, the groups I get scheduled with, always get cancelled. The court ends up selecting its jury and never even needs us to show up at the courthouse.  I think I’ve gotten four jury summons prior to this new one, over the course of 12 years, and my group gets cancelled every time.

I wonder how my luck will hold out with this one?

Someone remind me to either start popping Vitamin C when getting ready to fly halfway across the country, or invest in some Airborne.

I’m coming down with a sore throat.  Bah!

seeing red…

Wednesday, December 08, 2004

I decided last night while at the grocery, to try dying my hair again.  It’s been proabably about a year & a half, if not longer, since I dyed it last.

I picked out a reddish color (two packages, since my hair is long and would need more than 1 bottle), and dyed it before watching Amazing Race last night.

I think it turned out ok.  Although it’s probably not a huge change from the brown my hair was before, as no one at work has mentioned anything about it so far today, and in the past, usually at least one person notices and comments…

Other than that… I am looking forward to Friday.  Not so much the plane trip itself, but the fact that at the end of the plane trip we’ll be in Orlando for five days.  Wooo!

my blonde moment for the week…

Saturday, December 04, 2004

Talk about making myself feel like an idiot….

This morning, I noticed that the front right tire on our truck was getting a little low.
It has an extreeeemely slow leak.  So slow, it takes several weeks for it to get to where it was today.

Anyway, so after I paid for my coffee & diet vanilla pepsi & diet cherry vanilla Dr. Pepper at QuikTrip and walked back to the car, I decided to put air in that tire while I was at QT as I didn’t feel comfortable driving 45 miles to work with the tire low like it was.  [It was probably at like 25psi instead of the 35 recommended for that tire]

Drove over to the air pump, saw that the air was free.  Wooo!

Pulled air hose over to front right tire, took off the cap, and hooked up the air thingy.

Sat, and waited.  Looked down at the tire, and wondered why it didn’t seem to be getting any air.
Waited a moment more.  For a second I thought, “wow, their air compressor is mighty quiet”, and right on the heels of that thought was the realization that I didn’t push the button to turn on the stupid air compressor.

Eesh.  Seems like the tire isn’t the only thing leaking air.  :red:

See?  A very blonde-moment, and I shared it with all of you!

But I blame it on having to wake up so damn early.  Four a.m. after two months still isn’t jiving with my internal clock.  I don’t really start to function well until after 8a.m…

what impeccable timing…

Friday, November 26, 2004

I think one of my wisdom teeth is trying to come in.  :grrr:
My gums on the lower left side feel tender & sore… if you’ve had braces, you may know this feeling.. just after getting them tightened, how your teeth would feel if you chewed on something chewy afterwards?  That sort of good hurt?  That’s how my gums feel in that area.  And I am so NOT happy about it.

We’re due to go on vacation in two weeks.

So if this doesn’t subside, I’ll have to find a good dentist inside that two week period, schedule an appointment, go through the whole rigamarole of setting up as a new patient, get my wallet bent over the table since we don’t have dental coverage, and probably get the tooth yanked…  which I hope won’t have to happen before vacation, since I’d rather not spend my vacation trying to recover from a tooth yankin.

*sigh*

I wouldn’t be too worried about it if there were room for it back there, but there isn’t.

Damn tooth.

Oh, can anyone tell me about how long it takes to recover from a wisdom tooth pullin’?

here and there…

Wednesday, November 17, 2004

While this blog has sat neglected all weekend, we spent a good portion of our weekend either playing World of Warcraft (or, WoW), GTA:San Andreas, or Half-Life 2.

Actually, the last two, he played, I did other stuff.  If he played GTA:SA, I would probably be sitting on the couch next to him, knitting.  If he played Half-Life 2, I’d probably be playing WoW.  My night-elf is level 13 right now.  My pet companion is a big green spider.  (Ironic, considering spiders give me the heebie-jeebies).  Maybe I should get a screenshot of them before Blizzard decides to shut down the beta testing and wipes the characters.  :cheese:

I did get the baby sweater for the SIL’s kidlet done.  Well, finished knitting, anyway.  I still have to weave in the ends & attach the buttons.  Then I made a matching hat.  Got that done in like, two hours.  It’s funny, that hat.  It looks like it wouldn’t fit on my cat’s head, but it’s actually really stretchy.  Just k3, p3 for several rows, then start shaping for the top.  To be fair, while it’s really a generic pattern, I have to admit I got the idea from Wendy.  She posted the pattern there, I figured it would make a good hat for a baby, too.  All I did to adjust was use size 6 needles and baby yarn (or sport weight).  The nbr of stitches is the same (72), although I didn’t knit up 10 inches of length before shaping… probably more like six.

Next up, in addition to the blanket for the same baby the sweater & hat are for, is a matching hat for the mint green sweater that I’ll be giving to my sister’s baby.  Will probably use the same pattern.  The yarn for this is a little heavier, probably between sport & worsted, but since my sister’s daughter is almost six months old, a little larger of a hat will be ok, that way she’ll be able to grow into it.

I’ll probably just go on a hat making spree… I have yarn I can use to make my nephew & other two nieces some hats, too.  Hats are quick & easy, and I’m sure the kids will probably like them.  Or not, but I’ll make them anyway. 😊

*sniffle* *sniffle* *cough*

Saturday, November 06, 2004

Dammit.

Seems like I’m coming down with something.  Started with my sinuses spontaneously trying to drain from my right nostril, yet at the same time be stuffed, last night as we got ready for bed.

Still sniffly & stuffy this morning, but figured it would pass.

But as the hours & minutes tick by here at work, the sniffling isn’t letting up (I’ve actually got a raw spot on my nose from all the tissue wiping), I’m feeling warm to the touch, a little dizzy here & there, and I can feel it moving into my chest.

Grrr…

So, going home early, we will be doing.

Bah!

she’s a klutz, she is…

Have I ever mentioned here how much of a royal klutz I am?

Here, let me give a few examples:

That’s all I can think of at the moment, but they’re pretty major.

Just call me Miss Butterfingers.

a visit from the sick-bug…

Wednesday, October 27, 2004

Not me, yet, anyway.. but poor Josh just headed back home after dropping me off at work this morning.  He hadn’t planned on turning around and going home, as he had been ok upon waking, but on the way in he started feeling ill.  Considering he was sweating in a car that was probably 65F degrees, yeah, he’s definitely coming down with something.  :-(

So, he’s on his way home now, hopefully he’ll get there OK and in one piece.  He’ll be reporting in later to let me know what his temperature is.

I’m guessing it may be the flu, since he usually doesn’t get the sweats & shivers with a cold…  We’ve never been the type to get flu shots anyway, so the shot shortage that’s going on didn’t affect us, technically.

I’m just hoping whatever he has will pass me by like usual.  I’m already two sick/vacation days in the hole into next year, I really don’t need to be having to take any more… as it is, we think this little surprise sickness is going to end up burning a couple of his sick days from next year, too.

Yes, only October and we have absolutely no PTO days left.  For him, it’s because he started out with about 3/4th of the normal number of PTO days since he only started working in March.  He’s used some here & there and then we both have 40 hours reserved for our December vacation.  For me, in addition to the vacation in December, I also used two weeks of my PTO for my wedding & the honeymoon, in addition to misc sick & personal days.  I think I may have also started a day or two short from borrowing into this year in 2003…

Five weeks of vacation/sick time seems to disappear faster than you’d think.
