acronyms…
Everytime I see the acronym “RIF” on other people’s blogs, I have to remind myself, especially after reading the content of their post, that in their case, they’re referring to its meaning as “Reading is Fundamental”.
Mainly because, in my world, it almost always means “Reduction in Force”. You know, because the company I work for has gone through so many of those, in that context. Around here, “RIF” is a bad word.
sharpening the axe…
So today, the rumor mill starts spinning in regards to layoffs again, with a twist.
The current rumor is that our department will suffer a 50% reduction in force.
There’s nothing like having your legs cut off at your hips and still be expected to walk. 😖
I guess we’ll see how things turn out. Last time, the rumors started going around on a Friday, and we knew by the following Tuesday who fell under the axe and that they were “done for now”. I wonder if the turnaround from rumor to known fact will be as short this time, or if they’ll leave us quaking in our boots for several more weeks.
O.o
I’m all for recycling and everything, but… this is just… pathetic.
underestimated…
So, our bosses scheduled a skeleton crew for today, consisting of three people in my department.
Normally, on a normal, typical holiday, that usually suffices.
Apparently half the U.S. didn’t get the memo that they’re supposed to take today off.
Since I got here at 10, we’ve gotten at least 12 new trouble tickets. That’s only slighly less than we get on any normal business day. WTF?
We ended up calling in two extra people to help out. I can just feel my stress level falling now that the other two are here helping.
putt… putt… *sputter* putt…
*yawn*
Someone forgot to switch my engine on this morning. So… sleepy… Fighting the urge to nod off at my desk…..
I hate having to wake up at 4am.
So glad that tomorrow, even though I’m working a 12 hour shift, that I get to wake up at 8am. FOUR hours of extra sleep! (if I go to bed at the same time as last night, of course, which I probably won’t). But then it’s a 12 hour shift. I’ll get home at about 11, try to stay awake for midnight (it is New Year’s Eve, after all), and then collapse in bed to wake up again at 8 for another 12 hour shift on Saturday.
Yeah, two of them in a row. Stupid skeleton crew shifts on holidays. Puh. 😠
Worse yet… Instead of getting a swing shift on the next rotation like we were hoping for, we’re stuck on this stupid shift, again, for another three months. That does not make me happy at all.
gurgle… bloop… pfth!
I think my brain just melted.
I’ve been on the phone with a south american telco, for ONE HOUR, trying to explain a very. simple. problem.
And, no, I don’t think it’s a language barrier issue, because they speak perfect English, albeit with a Spanish accent.
I feel like putting my head through my monitor.
At least it would take my mind off of my sore throat.
GAH!!!!!!
oh so motivated…
pshyeah.
Hardly.
Returning to work after a week off is always difficult. Particularly when returning to work in the middle of your work week. The good news is we only have to work for two days and then we get our normal weekend.
The bad news is we have to work for two days and then we get our normal weekend. Bleh.
yay for holiday pay…
We decided to volunteer to work the day after t-day. We figured the extra money would be nice, it will help with Christmas shopping.
Aside from the extra money, working on a holiday blows chunks. Mainly because the skeleton crew is relegated to working a twelve hour shift. Bleh.
No, I’d rather not be out shopping with the rest of the nuts out there. The nuts that wake up at 3 or 4 am to be at stores that are opening their doors at 5:00-6:00a.m… I swear places are opening earlier and earlier as the years go by… Pretty soon they’ll be opening at 12:01a.m. the night of Thanksgiving.
Although it was oddly not busy at the new IKEA when we drove by at 9:45a.m… But then maybe IKEA is more of a place to buy for oneself rather than others… I dunno, haven’t been there myself yet.
Anyway… now to find something to entertain myself for another 7 hours.
Let’s see… I have my knitting… I have my Gameboy… and I could probably play around with a template for the EE gallery… hmm. Well, I have buttons to sew onto a sweater for my sister’s baby so I can bring it up to Prescott on Sunday.. I think I’ll start with that. toodle-ooo.
an interesting turn of events…
Some “reshuffling” of personelle was necessary this week due to things that happened on Tuesday.. And now Josh & I find ourselves being moved back to a four day work week.
Unfortunately it’s still on the day shift… and even worse, we’ll be having to be at work an hour earlier than we do currently.
Yes folks, 6a-4p. Four 10 hour days.
We’re happy to have our three day weekends back. Unhappy that we’ll need to go to bed an hour earlier on “work nights” (you know, like a “school night”).
Worst of all, is that I may be out of a job at the yarn shop.
Because one of their seasonal part-time ladies is now working M/Tu/W, and Mondays & Tuesdays will be the only days I can work. The boss said she’d do what she could to try to keep me on the payroll, but unless the other part-timer is willing to switch days, no more working there for me. :-(
So tomorrow may be my last day there. I’m really quite sad about it.
I may be getting my full weekend back, but what about the discount, man? The discount?? *pouts*
stay of execution…
for now.
but boy, were my nerves shot this morning.
And there’s no telling what may happen in the weeks to come.
