under the executioner’s axe…
So.
Josh & I, and Josh’s step-dad, are waiting to see whether we’ll have jobs by the end of this week.
But, we can’t assume we’re safe even if we are still employed by the end of this week, either.
That’s because our company will leave the axe hovering over our heads until March (that’s when they claim they’ll be “done” with the layoffs).
Needless to say, morale slipped a bit at work today, and will probably remain that way for a while.
I’ll be really cranky, though, if either Josh or I (or his step-dad) get the axe while trouble-makers get to keep their jobs. People who have been performing poorly, but are “protected”, for whatever stupid reasons.
So. Hopefully the three of us will get to keep our jobs. But who knows. The waiting is really going to suck.
brain = fried
And my day is maybe 2/3rds overwith.
And to illustrate how fried my brain is, I almost spelled “maybe”, like this: mabye
The week started out so good, relatively slow, then steadily got worse.
That’s just so backwards. Isn’t the week supposed to start crazy, and then wind down by Friday?
*sproing*
I think I just sprouted another gray hair.
Today has been absolutely insane at work. I think I was on the phone for nearly four solid hours this morning, between various trouble tickets.
And it’s Friday, people! Work shouldn’t be this shitty on a Friday!!
I feel the need to scream…
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!
I think I feel better now.
bleh…
Just bleh.
I don’t want to be here at work today. It’ll probably be worse tomorrow during my 12 hr shift.
On the plus side, it will be my last 12 hour shift for at least three months.
On the down side, I will only have a one day weekend this weekend.
Now, you may be thinking, “well, niki, don’t you always have a one day weekend these days, what with your second, part-time job at the YS?”
And I’d say, why yes, but this time it’s different. Because I’ll be coming back here to job #1 on Monday, instead of going to the YS. And that is what makes for a very short weekend.
analog circuits blow chunks.
Really, people, those are ancient, technologically speaking. Especially if you send data over it.
Get with the times!
phone hold time blather…
“All our technicians are busy, please continue to hold, and your call will be answered in the order it was received.”
40 minutes later….
ZZZZzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
“All our technicians are busy, please continue to hold, and your call will be answered in the order it was received.”
*schnort* huh? *wipes drool off keyboard*
So where was I?
“All our technicians are busy, please continue to hold, and your call will be answered in the order it was received.”
Oh.for.cryin.out.loud.
They finally answered after 47 minutes of holding.
The things I do for my job. Eesh.
job#2
They’re cool with my schedule change at job#1… There will be a seasonal part-timer* starting at the beginning of October, and another at the beginning of November, so losing me on Mondays & Tuesdays won’t be too big an issue. Plus they also hired another part-time girl last week, and she’ll be working as many mornings as she can until her job with Wal*greens goes through, and then only if the shop calls her and asks her to work.
So it’s all good.

the definition of “suckage”
That would be, having to move to a day shift at job#1 because the husband is getting a “step up” and being moved into another branch of our department, and as such, needs to be trained. And training only happens during the day.
In order to continue to carpool, and to continue being able to see Josh on a regular basis (i.e. to avoid working nearly polar opposite shifts which would mean hardly ever seeing one another) that means I have to move to days as well.
politics, shmolitics…
I’m not really into politics much. It probably has a lot to do with how a political discussion can become extremely heated, and how I am a terrible debator so I’d probably lose the discussion. Therefore I stay out of them if it can be helped.
But anyhow, at job#2 this week, since the RNC has been going on, it was brought up in discussion by the ladies there, co-workers included.
The full-time gal was off both Monday & Tuesday, so I don’t know which party she favors… but the owner, the manager, and pretty much all of the customers, just love ol’ Dubya. Just love him to death. It really kind of churned my stomach. I could picture them wanting to kiss his feet.
And they bashed Kerry, of course, being Dubya lovers.
I pretty much kept my mouth shut, didn’t nod or shake my head or anything. I pretended I didn’t exist. At job#1 I’d probably pipe in on the discussion, but at job#2, still being the newbie, and with how they just seemed to fawn over Dubya like he was the best thing since sliced bread, I kept quiet. Besides, I felt if I were to speak up, it would have been like throwing a raw steak out into the middle of a pack of starving wolves.
And while Mac’s assessment that it seems a majority of Dubya lovers tend to live in rural areas is probably at least partially true, there are also a good number of his fanatical followers that live in the cities. The people at the LYS I work at are proof of that. And not a single one of them is younger than 55 years old, so, at the risk of making a generalization, it seems like a large number of Dubya’s fans are also of the older generation(s). That’s just an observation I made as I sat taping needlepoint canvases while the ladies in the shop discussed Dubya.
Another observation I made while at work, specifically on Tuesday… the full moon this Sunday/Monday seemed to make the manager quite cranky. I’ll have to keep that in mind next month.. must be on my toes ‘round full moon time. It was like walking on eggshells. Eesh.
day 2 at job #2…
Second day, same as the first.
No, really.
Taping painted canvases again. I thought they’d never end! But they’re done! Well, the stack they wanted me to do, anyway. :cheese: I’m sure they have some more hidden around there somewhere.
Anyway, I got that done by 2pm*, so after that I tidied up an area where there are a bunch of magazines… people are so sloppy when looking through stacks of magazines. I mean, really, how difficult is it to keep things in a neat stack? Quite difficult, it would seem. Meh. It only took like 10 minutes to straighten those up.
Then I wandered each isle looking at the different yarns, picking them up and putting them with their mates if they’d fallen… etc. Watched the full-time gal ring up a couple of customers, watched her staple a small painted canvas to a stretcher frame. Wandered the yarn isles some more. Basically tried to kill two hours ‘til quittin’ time.
Oh, and I found out what that ‘spensive yarn is. It’s actually by Trendsetter, called “Blossom”. However, it’s custom dyed by a company called Prizm. So that pretty much doubles the price. And it’s $90 for only 8 oz of yarn. 🐛
I don’t need any special dye jobs, so I’m contemplating asking the boss to order me a bag of one of the standard colors. I’d get twice as much yarn for about the same price. Will have to think on it, though. One of the reasons for picking up this job was to put the extra $ toward either A) our vacation to Flordia in December, or B) for Christmas fundage. I may have to squeeze in some yarn purchases though. I don’t know if it can be helped. :cheese:
