How much is that again?

Hmm. I think Amazon needs to check their typing....
X-2: X-Men United. $1,906.56? That's a little much, no?

like fingernails on a chalkboard..

Certain sounds, noises, or voices sometimes really grate on my nerves. Sometimes it gets so bad I want to dig out my eardrums with a stake.

At the moment, the voice grating on my nerves is a customer that one of my colleagues has on his phone over the speakerphone.... a man with an Indian accent (east Indian). Oh, I don't usually mind an Apu-like accent, as long as it isn't MONOTONE! It's driving me batty just having to listen to this guy speak. I'm half tempted to crank up my speakers just to drown him out. If I knew I wouldn't get in trouble for it, I'd bring in a pair of headphones and plug those into my speakers, I'd much rather listen to music than the conversation that is going on about 15 feet away from me. *shudder*

There are other sounds that get to me like that... when people click the retractable pens over and over again... playing 'drums' on ones desk... having to listen to a cubicle neighbor spit into his trashcan (because he does chewing tobacco)... listening to tobacco chewers spit into cups.... the list could go on and on. To me, these kinds of sounds are like fingernails on a chalkboard.

onto more visually pleasing things..

Update: I decided to try for $125 buy it now and $50 to start. I can hope for more but it all depends on the people's tastes. :o) Here is a link if you're interested in viewing/watching the auction.

I am going to be putting up a dragon I made earlier this year on eBay later this evening. I'm trying to determine how much I should put both its starting price, and it's "Buy It Now" price. So far I figure $50 for starting, and am thinking $125 for Buy It Now.

Any thoughts?

the toilets here at work, and general bathroom etiquette

The toilets at work have a flaw that I hate. The bowl is shaped just so, that if toilet tissue or what-have-you is in just the right spot, it will not go down when the toilet gets flushed. This is not the same as a clogged toilet, this stuff just simply gets stuck on a level spot in the bowl and will not go down without help. eww.

Here is where the etiquette comes in.... [this will be gross, so if you are touchy about toilet leavings and feminine hygeine products, do not read on..]

she’s actually cleaning?

Yeah, so what?
I figured if I posted here just how much of a mess my office is, and I didn't follow through with cleaning it, it would be embarassing.

Anyway, I am still nowhere near done, but it is a start.

So I pose a question for anyone who reads this -- how long do you keep your bills (utility, credit card, etc.), if at all? Just a few months? All bills for a year up to the current date? Several years?

I ask because old bills are a part of the mess I am going through, and I am never quite sure just how long one is supposed to hang on to a bill. I think I have bills going back three years. (I could probably toss many of them, I think)

Does it depend on the bill? What do you do when it is time to throw them away? Just toss them in the trash, or shred them?

Anyway, let me know what you do with your old bills. I am curious to know.

Messy is an understatement

I was sitting at my desk this evening, trying to straighten my claying area and realized just how much cat hair and lint is lying around on my workspace. Let me tell you, cats and polymer clay do not mix, but the cats were here first, so I make do.

As I was moving my clay tools around to make a feeble attempt to clean up the lint & cat hair, I came to another realization, that I really need to organize my clay stuff a bit.

And immediately following that realization, came another.. maybe I should make an attempt to reorganize my entire office? God knows it looks like a tornado hit it.

I can hardly see my floor.

And I can't even get to my closet.

So, what I am thinking about doing, is this weekend, rolling up my sleeves and doing an overhaul in this room. Of course, coming from a person who procrastinates a lot and would rather surf and play video games than lift a finger to clean, this probably doesn't mean much. But at least I'm giving it some thought! :o)

Is that supposed to be cool?

Tuesday, August 19, 2003
I've noticed something that some young women have started doing to themselves, that I just don't understand. By young women, I mean late teens and early twenties.

They have their eyebrows completely waxed off (every single hair), and draw on new ones with an eyebrow pencil. Most of them do a right shitty job of it, too.

Take the girl at the pizza parlor I saw today when picking up lunch.

Real eyebrows completely gone, new ones drawn with a tan colored pencil. She looked like she had a permanent scowl with how they were drawn. You're front line customer service for this pizza place, lady. What kind of impression will it give customers to see someone who always looks angry taking their orders and running their credit cards? What was wrong with your real eyebrows? Couldn't you have just thinned them or shaped them if you didn't like the way they looked? Do you think it looks neat to go around looking like you're scowling without the actual effort of moving your brow muscles?

Silly me, I always assumed brow pencils were for those people who had naturally lost their eyebrow hairs or their brows were too thin or too light colored. Guess that isn't the case anymore. Frankly I think it made her look like a freak.

I think I’ll become a scout..

Monday, August 18, 2003
to scout for gas, that is.

My car has just over 1/2 a tank of gas in it.

My fiance's truck is on "E", with the gas gauge light on. He has to drive 40 miles to get to work tomorrow, and at best, without putting gas in his truck, he might make it to work, if he does not run the A/C, at two o'clock in the afternoon. Yeah, right.

It’s a madhouse

Sunday, August 17, 2003
I spoke yesterday of a couple of gas stations that were completely out of gas. Well, today, one of them, the Circle K, evidently got a shipment of gas trucked in. Let the mayhem begin!!

I drove past this Circle K on my way to pick up lunch. There were cars lined up 7 - 8 deep waiting to get gas. At $1.89 a gallon.

But I was mistaken in thinking that it was a madhouse at the Circle K...

Costco was much, much worse. I think there were a good 15 cars waiting in line to get gas, for each lane of pumps! Not to mention the line of cars that sat in the left & right turn lanes waiting to even pull into the station's driveway. By the time I passed by this mess, I saw a police car pulling in (going around cars waiting in line on the street, so I assume the intent of this officer was not to get gas), presumably to get out and start directing traffic.

I made it a point not to drive back the way I came, so I could avoid the chaos in the vicinity of Costco. For as many people who seemed to be so desperate to get gas there, I have to wonder just how much of a discount they were getting for being Costco members...
